1985 380SL Impeccable driver with more than $15,000 spent in last 24 months
1985 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Description
1985 Mercedes Benz 380sl: an impeccable driver with $15k spent in last 24 months in mechanical and cosmetic improvements.This1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL has 99,768 miles and remains unmodifiedthroughout. Finished in silver over blue, this SL retainsits factory hardtop and blue convertible top. The factory 3.8 liter V8 runs perfectly, with the most recent comprehensive service performed in August. The car spent 20 years with its original owner in California and Colorado, was in Ohio since 2010, and has been a fair-weather driver in Illinois since 2017. Some previous owners' service records are included along with every record since I purchased it two+ years ago. It also has its stamped service booklet through 1991 at 78k miles.
The factory hardtop fits perfectly and the blue convertible top is in good shape, though it includes a professional repair of a 7" tear on the driver's side. The body is clean and straight, and thanks to an obsessive owner (me) has benefited from a cosmetic refresh of the back half of the car (a while-you're-there obsession to correct every flaw) that came as the result of the tail light being damaged while parked. I spent a total of $7,390.42 at the body shop on work that started with fixing a simple taillight! The bodywork was performed by the Midwest's only factory authorized Mercedes collision center (North Shore Auto Rebuilders in Chicago).
The factory blue upholstery is in excellent condition throughout, with only minor wear, along the outer edge of the driver's seat as detailed in the photos. The driver's seat was rebuilt and re-stuffed less than a year ago at Cosmetic Auto in Chicago. The headliner of both the soft and hard tops are in excellent condition. The dash has a fitted, matching blue dash cover. The car shows no signs/smells of having ever been smoked in. The interior carpets are in excellent condition though the matching logo floor mats will soon need replacing. I have tried to document the car's known flaws in the photos (minor wear along outer edge of the driver's seat, paint imperfection on forward part of driver's door, minor scuff on rear bumper, and minor chips and road rash).
The 3.8 liter V8 and automatic transmission have been maintained in stock specification with a clean engine bay displaying all factory data plates, stamping, and stickers. I had the car serviced in June 2018 with new tires, new brake pads, discs and rotors (front); the seller from whom I bought it did the rear brakes in January 2017. Current oil change (spring 2019). General inspections performed at regular intervals, to ensure the double roller chain and tensioning pads are always looked after. In addition to the above mentioned bodywork, I have spent an additional $7,000 on mechanical maintenance over the period of my ownership.
The car comes with its original manuals, books, tools, spare wheel, and first aid kit.
I have owned the car for two years and have added 3,000 miles. The car is ready to drive anywhere. Everything works, including the original factory radio. Glad to answer any questions.
