1971 Mercury Grand Marquis Description

Up for auction is this beautiful Mercury Marquis. It is a two door with the 429 and auto on the column. It was owned by a older couple who couldn't part with it, ended up passing away and their son sold it to me. It was parked in a garage since 1995 and still has the 1995 sticker and I have the old style "small" California pink. They bought a newer car in 94 and parked this Mercury. I have every reason to believe the miles to be original as the son told me they only used it locally, the engine is free of grease and grime, and many of the original stamps, clamps, and markings are still on the car. I had to put four new tires on it, a master cylinder, plug wires, thermostat, valve cover gaskets as I did lube up lifters, springs, and rockers before turning it over. Son had put a carb kit in recently and a fuel pump and decided to let it go instead. It starts right up and runs smooth and quiet. Brakes work. Underside of car is clean and has NO RUST anywhere. It has power windows and they work but driver glass was broken as in shattered so I just vacuumed the glass out but there is no window in drivers door. Headlamp covers go up and down. Doors close nice and solid. Interior is very nice, dash has no cracks or warpage, door panels nice, rear seat and package tray nice, headliner nice, no cover for dome light but it works. Carpet stinks like cat pee as owners son told me the house cat marked it after the window was busted. I've been spraying the carpet with an Odor removing spray here and there but it still stinks. Radio works. Overall a nice clean car that needs a new home. Being a 71 it has some pluses worth considering, it has no smog junk on it so underhood is way less cluttered and repairs are easy as there is plenty of room to work on anything. It also does not have the five mile per hour crash bumpers that came later so bumpers sit nice and tight to the body. This car starts right up and brakes work so it can be shipped with no hassles.
