1987 Mercury Grand Marquis LS Colony Park woodie surf station wagon
1987 Mercury Grand Marquis LS Description
1987 Mercury Grand Marquis LS Colony Park station wagon. As far as I know, I am the third owner of this car. I have gone through most of the mechanicals (record of work done included); as a result, this is a strong and reliable daily driver that could drive cross-country today. I drive it in traffic and long hauls, where it easily reaches speeds that can pass most traffic (the speedometer pegs at 85). The powerful Ford 5.0L engine is easy to work on and find parts for. The transmission has been rebuilt and it has 4 new catalytic converters. Rebuilt front-end (tie-rod ends, bushings, rotors, etc.). California registration and smog check renewed this past January. Brakes are good, do not need replacement. Power everything: door locks, windows, seats, steering, dual mirrors. Climate control works as designed, A/C blows cold. Original radio/cassette player, I use a cassetteadapter to plug in my iPhone for music and navigation. The setting buttons on the digital dash clock do not work, but the clock itself runs. Interior is clean and complete, some sun-bleaching of theburgundy velvet fabric on the seats. This car can be driven as is, some cosmetic work is needed for a full restoration. The vinyl "woodie" panels are sun-damaged and need replacing (laser-cut replacements are available from several vendors) and it could use a new paint job, especially on the nose where the paint has cracked. My daughter crunched the right rear fender against a concrete pole...that can be fixed and the (rare) replacement trim piece needed to replace the damaged piece (several extra parts are included in the sale) comes with the sale. The odometer reads 69751, and I don't know if that is the true mileage (the previous owner didn't know, either). Original rubber weatherstripping has hardened and become brittle. There is no serious rust on the car, just some small bubbling in a few corners of the body. The tailgate is designed to be hinged open like a car door or drop down like a tailgate. The hinge needs to be cleaned thoroughly, it only allows the door to open sideways (a common problem on the older Ford/Mercury wagons). This is the same model wagon seen in Stranger Things and The Goldbergs, but it's not (as many people seem to want to call it) the Family Truckster from National Lampoon's Vacation. This wagon has moved my household 3 times in the past 5 years and performedmagnificently, even when fully loaded inside and on top (roof rack). Please ask all questions before end of auction.
