!963 S-55 breezeway Hardtop, Restored,
1963 Mercury Monterey S-55 Description
Dare to be Different and Seen is what I loved about this Mercury. There aren't many of these ever built, as in only 3280, which I believe is the correct number. I have owned this Merc for 17 years and am sad to see her go. Life makes changes we sometimes can't prevent and its time I have to let go of her. This Mercury has undergone a complete frame on restoration and has a little resto mod added in. There is documentation to all the body and paint work available as well. I can supply pictures on this, but will put together a disc or USB drive and transfer all the pictures for a new owner. I think the pictures speak for everything on the car but please ask if you have a special request to see something. The Merc was originally a Kansas rust free car when I acquired her. So body work and rust were minimal at best, with only 2 small areas of what I call deterioration rather than rust out. Frame and underneath is perfect original. Not detailed but nice. Feel free to have her inspected as well.
Resto mods consist of Modified AM/FM radio, Front Disc Brakes and upgraded master, Headlight kit for better night vision, Removed back up Lights in favor of sequential turn signals, Removed original T-10 in favor of a 5 speed Tremec TKO 500, 70 mph is approximately 2100 rpm, ( but big block is still thirsty the way built ) Rear pillar inside trim from 64 Parklane for speakers
There is so much to list on here that was done. The body was stripped to bare metal, blasted reprimed and painted original colors in Base clear paints, the paint matches the original paint codes of Peacock Turquoise and Sultana White. As much NOS trim was acquired and installed and any other trim was redone as in 32 pieces of stainless, right down to the gutter trim. Bumpers are triple plated by Tri City in Tn. All glass is original with exception of the windshield, which is tinted and new. All weatherstripping has been replaced as well.
Interior is all redone with seats reupholstered withal new foam and new original seat covers. New carpet, new Headliner and new doorpanels by SMS in Oregon. Well worth the price I would like to add. All windows operate as they should as well. The original Am Fm radio was upgraded to modern inside and I added 64 breezeway interior trim with the rear speakers mounted in the pillars. Interior chrome was also refinished as needed. Breezeway window works great too.
Mechanics are all completely done as well. Motor rebuilt as a mild street motor with mild comp cam, adjustable rockers, factory shorty headers, reworked heads to 428 specs, blueprinted, balanced, squared and decked. Runs like a bear. Transmission has been changed to a Tremec TKO 500 and only the purist can tell underneath it has been modified to look original with the mounts. Brakes are disc up front and rears replaced and done, although a while ago, Front end has been rebuilt with springs and all bushings replaced. Exhaust redone to larger pipes with Vortex mufflers. People know you are coming or going with this exhaust setup on the car, but after all its a Merc and people don't expect that bark or that they even built a 4 speed car. Its a sleeper to be recognized, and no slouch if you want to use the power that's available. The car is ready to have fuel injection added as well. A NO2 sensor bung is in the exhaust already, so bolt and go. Current fuel system is a Barry Grant double pump 650 on it sitting on an Edelbrock Performer Manifold. Stance is created with 15" wheels by American Racing, Top Gunners. Suspension has sway bars both front and rear.
There's probably more to say about the car but I think pics give you the idea of what kind of car it is. There's way more spent on this car than the reserve is. But if you want something different and a head turner, this may be the car for you! Mercs deserve Love too! maybe but you won't find one like this very often. I have enjoyed for 17 years and now its time to let her go to a new home. All transactions will go through e-bay and their rules apply. Bidding is serious business and costs money to do these listings. I wont reveal the reserve, but its not for dreamers or the faint of heart, although it is not out of line for any equivalent Galaxie 500 XL, except of course no breezeway window. good luck to all, bid away to win, you wont be disappointed with her.
