History-About This Car

The 1962 Mk 1600 was the final iteration of MG’s classically styled British roadster, hich began its production run in late 1955. The MGA was the first sports car to sell in excess of 100,000 units, eginning with the earliest, 500 cc XPAG-powered version. The Mk II featured a new inline four-cylinder overhead valve engine displacing 1,622 cc that developed a robust 90 hp and 92 lbs/ft of torque. It was the first MG capable of “topping the ton” or exceeding 100 mph in stock form. This marked increase in performance compared to earlier versions prompted the factory to upgrade the Mk II’s brakes with the addition of Dunlop front discs, hich greatly improved stopping power. The Mk II also offered the revised dashboard layout of the rarely seen MGA Twin Cam. In this version, revised front grille with recessed vertical chrome bars and combination tail lamps, ourced from BMC’s Mini sedan parts bin, ere now mounted horizontally on the rear valance below the boot lid, ather than on the rear fenders.
