1972 MG MGB GT Description

Rare and beautiful MBG GT in great condition.
  • The majority of the restoration was done in 2007 by the previous owner. That included $10,000 in body work, paint, interior carpet, panels, upholstery, dash, head liner, sun visors, sound, and heat deadening material.
  • The engine is a crate engine that Moss Motors completely rebuilt and sold as a new replacement engine. I have a description of break in procedure from Moss and receipt for installation from the British car shop that did the work. The engine has approximately 20,000 miles on it. I have had compression test and leak down test done and all is excellent. New tappets, cam shaft, double row timing chain, tensioner upgraded. I have had the car since 2013 and it runs perfectly with no smoke, never overheated.
  • 5 speed transmission has been rebuilt ( from a simpatico Datsun 280z ) and has less than 5000miles. This was done with a Rivergate kit. The transmission is about 70# lighter than original and flywheel was lightened to allow better acceleration.
  • The disc brakes are upgraded high performance, there is a tube shock conversion for rear suspension, new clutch, new starter motor, new steering rack, new steering wheel, fuel pump, wheels and tires (tires have about 4000mi), new slave cylinder, drive shaft, water pump, new windshield. New pertronix electronic distributor. Steering is very tight without play in wheel and no shimmy. Excellent jack and knockoff hammer with knockoff wrench. (Have receipts for all above which total over $34,000 above cost of car)
  • Upgraded header and exhaust & installed Webber carb in 2016. Has a great sound for a such a small motor.
  • Sony bluetooth + USB stereo with detachable faceplate.

As far as less than perfect: The windshield wipers work but are somewhat slower than I would expect. Heater and interior fan are nonoperational, but the cabin is warm even in -10 degree temperature. The exterior paint is excellent but there are a few small chips at door edges that I haven't touched up. There is no rust.
I have a full binder of all service records since the restoration that I can share with any interested buyer!
