1975 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Description

1975 was the final year for the Delta 88 Royale convertible. Oldsmobile's headline for this car read, "Today, a beautiful Oldsmobile convertible. Tomorrow, a collector's item." An Olds dealer in Indiana took that ad to heart. This was his personal car, and it has only been driven 9,000 miles since new. It comes complete with the original bill of sale, window sticker, and history of the owner and his dealership.
Ordered in Cameo White and still wearing its original paint, this car is gorgeous. The body is completely stock. Red decal stripes on the hood and down the sides add some style and flash to the look of this car, especially when the roof is down. A chrome front bumper sits below the quad headlights that flank the four-section grill with a Rocket badge in the center. There is chrome trim around the wheel wells and at the back edge of the doors that look good and help protect against dings. A Delta 88 script graces the front fenders, and Royale script is on the trunk. This is one convertible that looks really good with the top up. But put it down with the boot on it that matches the interior, and it looks spectacular. The one modern addition and nod to current fashion is the Billet Specialties alloy wheels which are staggered at 22" for the rear and 20" in the front.
Open that long door, and you will find a door panel trimmed in chrome, dressed with filigree and wood accents. The color is truly Royale in Dark Oxblood. Chrome door lock and window switches are conveniently located just in front of the long armrest. There is a six-way, power adjustable, pleated and button tufted leather seat which is quite the comfortable command center. The center console has a padded armrest and cupholders. A wood-grained dash has the ventilation controls and switches for the lights, wipers, and cruise control located to the left of the steering wheel. To the right is the convertible top switch along with the factory radio and a switch for the antennae so you can tune it to pull in stations either local or distant. Below that a box was fabricated to contain the upgraded sound system so as not to disturb the factory setup. The back seat is just as luxurious as the front and is where the dignitaries will ride if you use it in parades.
Open that long hood and you will find a neat and clean engine compartment with an air filter housing announcing the Oldsmobile 350 nestled inside. It is completely stock and unmolested except for the maintenance that you would expect on a car of this vintage. The belts and hoses have been replaced and there is a new alternator. A Rochester carburetor mixes the fuel for the motor, and it's nice to see it on this V8. They are so often replaced by hot-rod carbs, but the Quadra-Jet really did a nice job of making the right kind of power for cruising around town and rolling down the highway in luxury cars like this one. The power flows back through a smooth shifting 3 speed automatic transmission to drive the rear wheels. The chassis responded well with some lube pumped into the steering gear, but it was best to replace some of the rubber in the system, so there are new shocks and sway bar bushings front and rear.
A spectacular, 9000 mile "survivor" car. This is "Tomorrows" collector's item. But it is still "Todays beautiful Oldsmobile convertible". And it could be yours.
