What we have here is a strong-running and attractive limited-production 1961 Alvis TD21 with 91,987 miles on the odometer. This car is finished in Blue with an original Champagne leather interior. Overall, this car is stunningly beautiful.
This 1961 Alvis TD21 is a true gentleman’s touring car, body by Graber of Switzerland and built by Park Ward. She is powered by her three-litre inline 6 motor coupled to her original four-speed manual transmission. She has front disc and rear drum brakes and is a fantastic driver and rare British motor car,
We have records from 1972 in Cardiff, Wales, the car was owned by Kim Gardner, one of the British Invasion musicians who brought the car to London and then in 1976 had it shipped to Los Angeles where he owned and operated the Cat & Fiddle Pub on the Sunset Strip; considered the best British pub in the LA area. Maintenance records throughout the period (since 1972) include that in 2000 everything including glass was removed, the body was stripped to bare metal and repainted. Brightwork was replated and interior wood was refinished. The car previously had been stripped and repainted in 1979. All metal and paint finish are excellent, as is the brightwork with the exception of two areas on the front bumper.
Also in 2000 a new set of chrome-plated wire wheels was installed on which are mounted Pirelli P400 tires that have only a few thousand miles on them. Carpeting in both the cabin and trunk, and rubber mouldings, have been replaced and are in excellent condition. The original leather upholstery is in good condition with no holes or rips. Maintenance and spare-parts manuals, along with much technical data, are included. After Mr. Gardner’s death the car was owned by Garth Hammers, auction official with Gooding and Company, until late 2014. Maintenance records indicate that the current odometer reading of 92,000 miles may not be correct.
This is a rare and desirable car priced to sell and we do not expect her to last long. If you are looking for a classic British touring car and you want one in great condition, then do not let the opportunity to own this one pass you by.
