1941 Packard Model 1900 Description

This Packard runs and drives very well, except for being partially taken apart for restoration work. When I bought this car ten years ago, I drove it around a bit and quickly found that while it ran and drove quite well with no worn out sloppiness in the suspension and steering, it did not stop well. The right front wheel was the only wheel that had brakes, which would not work well in the mountain area where I live. So, a friend of mine who was a retired machinist and Packard mechanic helped me completely rebuild the entire braking system, including tubing and a re-sleeved master cylinder. We also needed to replace the engine to dash wiring harness, so I purchased a brand new one made especially for this car using the old style woven wire insulation to look like the original wiring. Then, my friend said, "Hey, while we are doing this, let's also do this and that," so he disassembled some other things. For example, he took out the dash to make re-wiring the car easier, and also allow us to refinish the dash to its original wood grain finish. My friend started developing some Alzheimer's issues and was soon unable to help put everything back together again, so the car was moved from his shop to my garage where it has remained for the last three or so years. The car has always been stored, even by the original owners and the guy in between them and me, in fully enclosed and covered clean garage conditions. So, there is no significant rust anywhere on the car and the paint is in pretty good shape as you can see in the pictures. That also explains why the drive train is in such good shape. Even the tires, which are the old bias ply wide whitewall tires, are in good shape. Also, the interior upholstery and headliner are near perfect as shown in the pictures. All the pictures except for the one of the car in my garage were taken before my friend starting taking things apart, and you can see in those pictures that when I bought the car it did not have a hood ornament or wiper arms. Both of those items are readily available for anyone who wants to put the car back together and drive it, most easily probably through Max Merritt Packard Parts. Max has almost anything you could possibly need to fix anything on the car, and Steele Rubber has all the rubber parts. In fact, I have a brand new windshield rubber gasket to use when re-installing the windshield, which my friend also took out when he was removing the dash. I have already purchased brand new windshield glass, and those two pieces will be included with the car for whoever buys it. There has never been any body damage, such as from an accident, as far as I can tell, and I have had the front bumper re-chromed. The hood ornament you see in the picture of the car in my garage was just borrowed from another Packard, and I have had to return that to its owner. He loaned it to me so I could see what it would look like on the car if I wanted to find another one to buy for my car. That particular hood ornament never came with my model Packard, but it does actually fit if a buyer wanted to find one. It's a pretty unique item with the glass piece for the robe flowing behind the goddess of speed. The only other item missing from the car is the driver's side window mechanism. My friend took that out to repair some sloppiness in the mechanism, and unfortunately, he lost it somewhere in his shop after his Alzheimers started getting bad. He sold his shop, and it probably went to the new owner, or may have been thrown out as junk before the new owner brought his stuff in.
So, the car is complete, but partially disassembled, and it's time for me to pass the car on to someone who can put it back together and will take care of it. That person should expect to enjoy the car for a long time. It really turned heads whenever I drove it around before we started taking some things apart for restoration. Its color combination, Laguna Maroon metallic on the bottom with French Grey Silver metallic on top, is very pretty and gives it a classy look.
I'm offering the car at less than half of what I actually have in it, and all the new parts as well as all the other parts that have been taken off will come along with the car.
