1939 Packard super 8 Opera coupe
1939 Packard Packard Description
This is an excellent example of an original car. The body is exceptionally solid, no evidence of any repairs or rust, my best calculation is that this is a repaint in the original color (Artic Blue). The paint has some age cracking, but not through to the metal. From a few feet away it looks very nice.Glass is good however there are a few window groumets that could be re3placed. Chrome is good, would look better if rechromed, has an optionql front bumper guard. The 7;00x16 wide whites look good, has hub caps and trim rings.Running boards are good. INTERIOR, the inside shows some evidence of both wear and moths, neat folding opera seats, all floor mats are script Packard. This car has been in a museum for several years. On 12/29/17, I drained the gas tank, nice clean steady flow of gas, no evidence of trash or rust. Installed a new battery, cleaned the points, devised a gravity fuel system, turned on the key and within 3 revolutions had a smooth, quiet, non smoking, no noise running engine. The accelerator pump is slow and I bypassed the fuel pump,am looking for both repairkits now, carb and pump. May go to an electric pump and in line filter. This car lends itself to many options,1) with just a little work, drive it like it is, brake pedal is hard and all 4 appear to operate, 2)There is no such thing as an easy restoration, but this is the perfect candidate 3) Sorry to say this, but I can only imagine how impressive this magnificent body would be with a late model set up and still under the cost of new luxury vehicle. The next few numbers are what and where I have found them.Cowl tag, drivers side 1275-2263Raised letters on cowl 5I7I70On engine *B505842*On block 335468on head 242511on old papers with car 517170weight 3860 new price $1640From the Packard info I have found, this is a 1703-1705 series, super 8, 319 cubic inches,130hp, the cowl tag also says Hartford, Conn, winshield sticker 1953 ConnMiles, NO proof, but from paper, pedal wear and overall condition the 42,839 showing may be correct.Early Dec 17, I listed the car on Ebay auctions, had 1292 hits 195 bids high bid of low 20,s, and 6 offers of $25,000.00 when I ended the auction, my reserve was way to high, but I didn't know and it was not running. My asking price is now $30,000.00 and is firm. Thqnks for your time, E me for quick honest responces. Car is in Macon, Ga area and your inspection is welcomed
