1939 Packard business coupe model 1701
1939 Packard Model 1701 Description
This is essentially an unrestored original 1939 Packard 120 business coupe, Model 1701, with 81,000 miles. The car was sold new in Connecticut on July 5, 1939 and remained with the original owner until 1968.Originally black, the owner didn't like it and immediately had the dealer repaint it two-tone beige and brown. The 2nd owner did a lot of work to the car as far as general maintenance and repainted it in what I believe to be Packard's color of Pacific Blue in 1973.The original front mohair seat upholstery is intact with a vinyl cover in place, The jump seats retain their original material as does the door panels, headliner and sun- visors.. The interior though completely original, does have water stains. The entire interior, and drive line, (282 CI straight eight/3-speed on the column) are total untouched. The wood-look steel dashboard and gauges are in very nice condition as is the steering wheel. The car has a clock, which works and a heater. The original jack is with it.The thermostatically controlled grille operates well. The car retains it's 6-volt positive ground electrical system with small turn lights mounted under the front and rear and operated with a toggle switch. The undercarriage has scaly surface rust with some heavier rust along the underside of the running boards. The left front fender arch where the fender brace is mounted is rusted through. Inside the trunk on the extreme left hand side has a repair that's visible from inside the trunk.A comprehensive history along with photos in an album come with the vehicle. The car starts and drives very well. The fuel and brake system were redone prior to my ownership 7 years ago. Recently a new battery and points were installed, and an oil change was performed. There is an auxiliary electric fuel pump.Currentlyregisteredand a clear title. This is a great time capsule. How many original Packard's are out there that runs and drives well? Please look at the photos and ask questions. Inspection is welcome.
