Bonjour, My Fellow Peugeot Fanatics!
This 505 has only had 3 owners its entire existence.
The first owner enjoyed the car for over 30 years, and still continues to love it to this day. Due to misc needed mechanical repairs he finally decided to part with it.
I often hear from former Peugeot owners who see this car. Most remember them fondly, and greatly regret selling out for a Honda, Toyota- etc. Many couldn't find skilled labor at the time to keep them going...
Good French car mechanics have always been in short supply!
A little while back while getting fuel I heard across the parking lot. " Holy Crap, is that a Peugeot that runs?"
It does very well, starts every time, stops excellent, handles, turns well, rides and shifts smoothly, has a fantastic heater, and is equipped with an excellent radio along with manual windows that all work wonderfully.
With Power steering, and rack & pinion. It drives amazingly. Much better than you would think.
The video shows it runs, and drives. With the turbo, it has plenty of power. The engine is a bit louder than a Mercedes 240d-300d Diesel. Sounds more like a small tractor at idle.
Even quiet on the inside.
That's why I like it!
It is driven frequently and has never let us down. The fuel mileage in this sedan is outstanding. It is a car that could be driven cross-country without a thought.
Parts supply is still really good. The 505 model is still very popular all over the world. Not much to be found at the chain stores, but anything easily online.
The following is a list of new parts that have been installed:
The New: N.O.S. BOSCH Injection pump ($700.00), Electric fan, 12 volt power outlets, Motor mounts, Battery, Hankook Tires(less than 500 miles), front brake rotors, brake hoses, ball joints, numerous front-end bushings, axle hub nuts, valve cover gasket, valve adjustment, various belts and hoses, etc. Rust wise- it is very solid.
As mentioned the car drives excellent however like most older vehicles, the following things could be addressed…
The interior, though very comfortable could use some fabric paint spray and a little mending. The RPM gauge has not worked in numerous years, however it is not a big issue to the driver.
When first started, it has a small diesel fog behind it. This is how older diesels are..
The belt is detached from the AC pump. Windshield has fogging on the bottom corners, however passed VA inspection just fine.
Overall it is a very dependable, economical car to putter about it in. Rides better than an ole' Mercedes diesel. Just as easy to live with.
