1971 Plymouth Barracuda Cuda Convertible 383 Mopar's Finest Fully & Freshly Restored
I am pleased to offer this fully restored 1971 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible. Yes! Mopar lovers, this is a real BS27N1B Cuda convertible. It is arguably one of the most desirable Mopars ever produced! As you look at all the cars for sale, you will start to find how many of them are “clones” or “recreations” that are build-up to replicate real cars such as this 1971 Cuda. Why you ask? One reason is that for 1971 model year, there were only a 128 Cuda convertibles built with the 383 Super Commando engine for sale in the U.S. Of these, 87 were equipped with the automatic transmission. Including all engine types (340, 383, 440-6, 426 Hemi) and exports, there were only 374 Cuda convertibles built for 1971 (292 for the US), with around 265 of the 374 total known to exist today. There are approximately less than 90 of the 1971 383 Cuda convertibles known to exist today. Counting all 292 US Cuda convertibles built in 1971, only 21 were GB5 True Blue Metallic. Of the 21 GB5 True Blue Metallic cars, only 4 cars had factory billboard callouts (3 cars with black billboard callouts and 1 with white billboard callouts.) This is 1 of those 3! Available for the first time in two decades, here’s a rare opportunity to actually own this Cuda convertible. If you are an E-body guy, now is your chance. Most of the time, cars like this are exchanged behind the scenes with private sales between collectors. A total of three big block options were available in 1971. This 383, the optional 440-6 pack and the Mopar legend, the 426 Hemi. As we all know, the Hemi equipped convertibles are selling for millions of dollars today! You will see in the pictures, this is a beautifully restored car from nut to bolt, top to bottom, and bumper to bumper. The car underwent a no expenses spared seven-year restoration project that was completed in June of 2015 and ranks amongst the best in existence. This car looks like it just rolled off the assembly line when new (or better). Only the most trusted vendors, suppliers and many NOS parts were used in the build. The car only has 30 miles on it since completion and it is ready to be debuted and welcomed for the first time at any car show or event. To repeat, this is a fully restored non-original motor Cuda Convertible. The correct 383 motor with trans. has been sourced and installed and price adjusted accordingly. When purchased by the current owner, the car was missing the original motor and transmission. Every effort was painstakingly made to use a dated coded replacement motor and transmission. All options have been restored and accounted for per the fender tags. A few liberties were taken to add the rubber bumpers, rim blow steering wheel and internal engine modification enhancements. This particular car is loaded with many rare and desirable options. In fact, only less than 10% Cuda convertible production run cars received this many options. It’s a true “two fender tag” car which includes factory air conditioning, billboard callouts, road lamps, rallye dash, power brakes, power steering, power top, etc. The car was purchased from Arizona and had a California title prior to 1996. The history search is ongoing. Documentation shows the original VIN tag on dash, clear Tennessee title in hand, factory body number on the cowl, reproduction door tag, reproduction fender tags made from the originals before the originals were unfortunately lost at a body shop at onset of initial restoration attempt in the late 90’s, no broadcast sheets were found during this restoration, no number on the radiator support. The car is registered in the 1970-71 Plymouth and Dodge E-Body Convertible Registry through Ola Nilsson. Full restoration documentation, pictures and receipts from rotisserie restoration available to validate workmanship, means and methods. A car of this rarity is only deserving of this much attention to detail. No disappointments. SUMMARY: – Original 383 c.i.d. Note that you are looking at rust-free, dent-free and pit-free frame rails (rare find for Cuda convertibles). Extremely labor intensive preparation to ensure longevity and factory correctness includes the following steps to the undercarriage: – Gray epoxy inside and out frame rails and floors – Drip marks mimicking the factory process of paint preparation – Dusting of red oxide over spray – Single stage gray primer sealer – Satin clear coated and finally over spray with body color and rocker panel black outsDATA TAG DECODE: ROW 1:M31 body belt moldings M88 deck molding treatment N41 dual exhaust N42 bright exhaust tips N85 tachometer CTD CONTINUED ON 2nd TAG ROW 2: J54 sport hood L25 trunk compartment light L31 turn signal light-hood/fender L34 road lamps M25 body sill moldings ROW 3: C55 bucket seats G11 tinted glass all windows G36 lh rem/rh man dual sport mirrors painted H51 air conditioning w/ft heater J25 w/shield wipers 3 spd/variable J45 hood tie down pins ROW 4: V3X black top U build to specifications A01 light package glove box light glove box lock map, ash tray, cargo compartment lamps trunk compartment lamp hood/fender turn signals lights rear door dome lamp switch ignition switch lamp w/timer headlamp buzzer headlamp switch lamp w/timer A62 rally cluster B51 pwr brakes C16 console with wood grain ROW 5: GB5 bright blue metallic paint H6X9 black interior 000 full interior door panels 608 mfg June 8th 038285 sequential production number ROW 6: E65 383 8 cyl 1-4bbl hp 300 hp (B-family) D32 A727 3-speed automatic transmission BS27 BARRACUDA/SPECIAL (Cuda package) CONVERTIBLE N1B 383 4 BARREL, 1971, Hamtramck, MI assembly plant 419xxxx Vehicle Identification Number ROW 7: P37 power convertible top R11 radio AM music master V6X black tape sport stripes 26 radiator diameter EN2 end of sales code on fender tags RESTORTATION PARTS USED IN BUILD: BLOCK: – N.O.M.
