Here is an incredibly rare opportunity to own one of the most rare, legendary and desireable vintage Mopar muscle cars known to exist. A limited run of 2,724 AAR’s were built in 1970 of which only 1,120 came with the 4-speed transmission. This is a genuine article, A53 Package, 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda. It has never been restored. This car spent its entire existence in Missouri. It was a barn find out in Sullivan (rural area) and it is having been in my personal possession since 1993. This AAR requires a complete restoration and is in rough shape.
Sometime in the 1970's the exterior of the car was customized. The original orange hue was painted over in red. Fender flares were made from welded on electrical conduit and bondo. I gigantic wing was fabricated from steel rod, sheetmetal and bondo and welded to the back of the quarter panels and the decklid. A "Frenched In" antenna was installed and a custom lace and air brushed paintjob was applied over the then new paintjob. To top if off, flames and a skull were painted on the factory fiberglass hood. At the same time, the seat inserts were given a black velour covering over the factory vinyl. Also, the engine compartment was covered with rattle-can rubberized undercoating.
When I acquired the car, it was a rolling shell with a bunch of parts. A previous owner had started the engine rebuild with a reputable Mopar machine shop starting with the block. The block had been hot tanked, machined for 6 sleeves (standard bore), decked, lined bored with new cam bearings and core plugs. The quality of the machine work is outstanding. I purchased the car with the intent of restoring it back to 100% original specifications but unfortunately, other priorities have taken precedence.
The car has been in dry, indoor storage since I acquired it. This is a mostly complete, numbers matching car: Dash VIN, unibody stamped VIN’s, Block and A-833 4-speed transmission all match. The original rear end is in the car which is the very desirable 3.55 Sure-Grip, 489 housing 8.75” rear and is mounted to the specially arched T/A-AAR leaf springs. The car is titled to me (Clear Missouri title), has both original fender tags in excellent condition and the original broadcast sheet. The original color was the high impact, EK2, "Vitamin-C" orange. Interior is black with the optional console and Rallye dash assembly. It has the extremely rare, for the AAR model, C62, 6-Way adjustable seat. The car comes with the vast majority of the original (and nearly impossible to source) parts it was born with. I had purchased a complete interior kit from Legendary Auto Interiors many years ago and comes with the car. There are many spare parts both original and reproduction that also come with the car. Everything is detailed in the 100's of pictures below.
There are some missing items. The original intake manifold, outboard carburetor vacuum pods, linkage and associated fuel lines are gone. All are available form the aftermarket today. The original special AAR cylinder heads (offset pushrod thru holes) still wear remnants of the factory orange enamel they were painted with when new. These will need new valve guides and hardened exhaust seats. One of the intake valve guides shows cracks. This can and will need to be repaired. The original exhaust is long gone but again, readily available from the aftermarket. The original fenders were extremely rusty and not worth salvaging. Same goes for the original decklid. The car comes with original 1970's vintage, 15" x 7" AAR fenders and a matching AAR decklid...both in burnt orange. The front windshield is cracked nad will require replacement. The original factory Hurst shifter handle is missing but replacements are readily available. The original 15" x 7" Rally wheels are long gone. The car rolls and will come with 1970's Police Wheels (15" x 7") which are actually becoming quite expensive these days. Reproduction Rally wheels are easily sources today.
It has been an extremely difficult decision for me to sell this car. It is my favorite muscle Mopar of all time and a car I've been infactuated with since I was a small boy. This is a rare chance to get your hands on a real-deal AAR that has never been restored and has matching numbers and many desirable options. The car is located at a relative's home in Pacific, Missouri. I physically live in Southern California. The buyer will be responsible for picking up the car in Missouri. My family in Missouri will facilitate the title transfer on my behalf.
