1967 Plymouth Fury Series III Description
Now offered for your consideration, and just in time for the Summer is a very fun, driver quality Plymouth Fury Series III convertible, gorgeous in a Onyx black, and contrasting Arctic white interior.
Recommissioned following a 31 year hibernation, wherein its former owner commenced with a rather comprehensive restoration, yet stopped in mid 1985, only to see this Fury III Series convertible remain in storage for the next three decades. Upon acquisition of the Fury, I noted it had received a new interior, carpets, and paint. The paint now 31 years old, shows very nicely overall, but certainly not concourse or perfect. Some imperfections exist.
Recommissioning entailed a brand new Robbins convertible top, pads, trim, and crystal clear rear zip out window, a cost well in excess of $1100, all oils replaced (engine, transmission, differential) new rear brakes, wheelcylinders, belts, brake fluid and coolingsystem flush, AC43 Spark plugs, points, condenser, fuel and air filters, new Tiger Paw radial whitewall tires, new muffler and tail chrome tail pipe, and much much more. Additional attention wasgiven to the body involving wet sanding, buffin, polishing and Carnauba waxing to remove some paint flaws. It waxes up very nicelyas you will note in the photographs.
a 230 h/p+ 318 cubic inch LA (light) V8 engine coupled to a very nice shifting 3 speed Torqueflite automatic transmission, it exhibits terrific powerand acceleration, andthere is no smoke or unusual noises. Oil pressure indicates a consistent 60psi++ at cruise and 40 psi at idle when warm. The engine is very strong, and I suspect it received a previous refresh at some point in time prior to my obtaining it. Front torsion bar suspension provides for a very nice ride.
The Fury'ssemi-monocoque chassis exhibits solid original floors, doors and trunk. Previous repair has been made to the right and left rear lower quarter panels (aft of the rear wheels), rocker panel replacement, and minor random body work. All repairs were performed withreplacement steel. Suspension, sub frame, and driveline are solid, with minor surface rust only.
What it needs: The brand new power convertible top works best with colder outside air temperature, however when its warmer, requires some assist when deploying and closing. The dash pad and glove box housing are cracked, and the fuel gauge works intermittently, probably a sending unit.
All the lights and instruments function normally with the exception of theaforementioned fuel gauge, and of course the clock is only correct twice a day. Additions to the interior are a Sony AM/FM C/D player with premium speakers hidden in the kick panels, and a discreetly mounted oil pressure gauge next to it. Glass and stainless are in great condition. The chrome bumpers show some random staining and very minor checking. Allthe windows operate normally.
In conclusion, this is a delightful and fun car to own. As with any pre-1970 American convertible with a V8 it will continue toappreciate in value annually. Iencourage personal inspection or by a "qualified" representative of your choosing prior to sale end. Inspection as a conditionof sale following auction end will not be permitted.
My reserve has been appropriately defined by published figures, and please, do not request it. This is NOT a $5k to $7K "project" car and is priced accordingly to reflect a nicely well sorted convertible. Kindly consult Hagerty Valuations, and NADA prior to bidding. For those of you who wish to make an offer, "reasonable" offers will be considered, and if accepted, I reserve the right to end the auction early. The Fury is additionally advertised on other local and international venuesand may sell before reserve is met. Also, bidders with a feedback score of 15 or less, kindly call me prior to bidding, thus not risking having your bid cancelled.
Summer is on our doorstep. Don't wait for these convertibles to escalate in price in the next couple of weeks.
