1970 Plymouth Barracuda AAR Description

Some would argue that the late-60s and early-70s Trans-Am racing was the best America ever offered, nd the result was awesome cars like this 1970 Plymouth AAR 'Cuda. Designed to combat the Mustang Boss 302 and Camaro Z/28 it emphasizes high-winding small block power and razor-sharp handling over brute force, nd it totally works. This numbers-matching AAR 'Cuda benefits from an extremely high-quality restoration, hich is only appropriate as it's among the most highly prized pieces of Mopar muscle. Refinished in its original Lemon Twist yellow, t's a high-impact E-body that looks like none of its other siblings. The blacked-out hood features a bespoke scoop and the strobe stripes along its flanks terminate in the AAR logo of Dan Gurney's All American Racers, rom which the car draws its name. You'll also note side exhaust peeking out from under the car just ahead of the rear wheels, critical part of the AAR 'Cuda look. This one also features a rear spoiler and a set of driving lights up front, ompleting the highly aggressive look. It was repainted just a few months ago by noted pro Darrell Wilson and the paint is absolutely show-quality in every possible way. Awesome gaps, uper smooth sheetmetal, nd crisp decals make it look showroom fresh. Actually, o 1970 Chrysler product ever looked this good and this one is truly remarkable. The interior was restored to the same exacting standards. New upholstery on the high-back buckets, center console, nd a full complement of Rallye gauges, ncluding a tach, ake this an awesome place to do some serious driving. It isn't flashy, lthough the woodgrained wheel adds an upscale flair, nd unlike its Ford and Chevy competition, he AAR could be had with an automatic transmission, s is the case with this one. There's also an AM radio in the dash, ut precious little else to slow it down, nd the effect is clean and well-honed, n ideal weapon for combat on the streets. It's Spartan, es, ut the quality of the materials and workmanship ensures that it'll be a joy to drive and if you like collecting trophies, his car will probably do it for you pretty easily. Even the trunk is expertly finished using a reproduction mat and a proper space-saver spare with jack assembly. The AAR's powerplant was a 340 cubic inch V8 with Six-Pack induction, nd this is indeed the car's original, umbers-matching engine. It's fully rebuilt and freshly detailed for show, ncluding proper decals on the massive oval air cleaner, eproduction hoses and clamps, nd even a yellow-cap battery. It's extremely fresh and crisply rendered, aking it a shoo-in for competition and it even runs superbly, omething you don't often get with show-caliber cars. It was rebuilt by legendary engine builder Matt Bishop, o you know there's a lot of talent behind it. The 727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic is also rebuilt and while it's not numbers-matching, t is date-code correct and the heavy-duty 8.75-inch rear end was standard equipment. The underside is completely show quality thanks to a rotisserie restoration, nd the floors offer just the right amount of overspray, roper finishes on the hardware, nd just about everything you can touch is new. Restored Rallye wheels look great and carry reproduction E60-15 front and G60-15 rear Goodyear Polyglas tires, aking the AAR 'Cuda the first production car to carry staggered tires.Documented with goodies like the original fender tag that says simply, TRANS AM" plus an original owner's manual, his is one of the finest AAR 'Cudas in the country.
