Up for sale we have a very special 1962 Pontiac Catalina. This car was built by David Greene in '07 and has been featured in multiple publications like High Performance Pontiac and the Hot Rod Network! It features a Jim Taylor built 421 Super Duty under the hood, and the custom body work gives you one of the sweetest rides you'll ever see. We have pictures of the restoration along with documentation on the engine. In the paragraphs to follow we will give a brief description of the exterior, interior, and driveline of this Pontiac, but first we would like to tell you a little about us.
Smoky Mountain Traders is a classic car dealer in east Tennessee. We are family owned, operated, and own our entire inventory, no consignments, and only deal in muscle cars and vintage auto. You can count on us to have 70 to 80 cars at all times. We don't have a big show room that our customers would otherwise pay for. So, that's how we can sell for less than other dealers. To contact us for more information, pictures, or any questions call our office at (865)988-8088 or visit our SmokyMountainTraders website.
We will start off with the exterior of the Catalina. A '62 Pontiac Bubble Top, that's what many wanted as they prepared to purchase their new Pontiac in '62. Unfortunately, that wasn't the option that was afforded to them. David Greene was one of those very individuals and in 2007 he restored the "Phantom Bubble Top." Starting with a '62 Catalina the top was removed and a bubble top from '61 was installed. Aside from this swap the body is stock. Looking at the gaps and fit of the doors, hood, and trunk you will find they are excellent. The body is covered in the Cameo Ivory that is accented by the Red Decals. The paint has a gorgeous finish that is slick as a ribbon. All the chrome and stainless is still in excellent condition with only some light aging to some pieces. Looking at the glass it's also in great condition along with the seals. To finish off the look it's sitting on a set of Super Duty Wheels with ET Street Tires.
Next, we will look at the interior of the '62. On the inside, it's done in the Tri-Tone Morrokide Interior that complements the exterior beautifully. When you open the door, you'll see the that the seat covers were redone at the time of the resto along with the padding. The door panels also appear to have been replaced and are in excellent condition with the handles showing light discoloration. As for the carpet and headliner, they are also done and blue. Looking at the dash you'll notice the pad is in very good condition along with all the metal. Also, you'll see the Pontiac Logo Tach Housing mounted to the A-Pillar that has a working aftermarket tach. The rest of the gauges in the dash are also all working. When you look in the trunk of the Catalina it has been detailed with a Spare and the Blue Trim.
Finally, we will get to the driveline of this Pontiac. As special as everything else is about this car, under the hood is what is sure to take your breath away. This Bubble Top is sporting a '63 model replacement 421 Block that was professionally built by Jim Taylor. Sporting the 716 Super duty heads this 421 is stuffed with a '63 short-snout 4.00" Stroke Armasteel 421 Crankshaft, 6.625" Crower Sportsman forged 4340 steel rods, and KB 4.15" Pistons. The 2x4 Offenhauser Aluminum Intake is set up with Edelbrock 500 carbs. The exhaust flows through reproduction SD Aluminum Long Branch Manifolds with collectors and cutouts that are mated to 3" Stainless Steel Exhaust and Flow master Mufflers. The trans is a Borg Warner T-10 Four Speed that's mated to the Posi Trac Rear with a 4.56 Gear. When you look under this Pontiac you'll see everything appears rock solid from front to back!
This is a Bubble Top clone as Pontiac never built one in '62. If we can help you in any way with questions or a specific picture, you can call our office at (865)988-8088. Or feel free to call Daniel at (423) 807 0600, Devvin at (865) 256 2366, or you can e-mail us at smokymountaintraders@yahoo.com.
