1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible (project)
1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible Description
1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible (project). The vin# 223678L108806 and body tag # 68-22667. I am selling my 1968 Firebird Convertible. This car is a rare find because it was built in Van Nuys CA in the start up phase of Firebird production there. Only about one sixth of Firebirds produced in 68' were built there and out of the total of 16,960 converts built it is estimated only 1,696 have survived and only about 282 convertibles left built in Van Nuys. From there you break down rarity in to options like color, drive train, interior, etc. My 68 convertible was built with a 350,automatic, factory air,160 mph speedometer. The car was originally Verdero Green with a black top and black Deluxe interior. It has a clear Nebraska title and shows 32,290 on the odemeter but is probably in excess of that. The car has its original engine and transmission. The block is YJ code (350) and is #736178. Motor got a complete rebuild by previous owner and runs great with almost 0 miles just break in time. It has a old Edelbrock P4B manifold with a a newly rebuilt 68' Quadrajet off a Buick Grand sport or Wildcat. The car is not drivable at time and will need trailered. It needs needs a little carb adjustment, fuel tank cleaned out, brakes blead, drives haft installed and a shift knob installed. The body seems really solid abd straight. A different trunk pan was installed but needs finished (paint). The rear floor pans do need replaced. I do have the new pans and a spare hood in better shape shape that goes with car. The interior and top all needs replaced. Frame work for top is nice but needs new black top. The black deluxe interior all needs done. Need to reupohlster the seats, replace carpet and door panels. The dash pad is good and just needs a good cleaning. Windshield needs replaced but door glass is good. The car now sits on Cragar hurricane style rims with really good tires. Probably 90-95 % tread. The car could be made drivable in a matter of hours but truly needs to have the restoration done before it hits the road again. It is missing the bumpers, glove box door and some a/c parts from engine compartment. I hate to get rid of it but know it will go to someone who will make it shine again.
