1978 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird Description

This auction is for a very nice, 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird. I am the second owner of the car, its very original and unmodified. Very difficult to find a Trans Am in this condition. It had one repaint in it's original Martinique blue metallic. This Trans Am is also unusual in that it is rust free-even around the back window area! The car was stored for a number of years and much was done to bring this Trans Am back to road ready condition. Recent work includes: Fuel system flush, carb rebuild by one of the best race shops in Southern California(the original Quadrajet was in great condition to begin with), all new fuel lines, filters and clamps. Complete fluid flush-fuel, oil, brake and cooling. New brake rotors, wheel bearings, calipers, master cylinder and booster.
Inside, the carpet was replaced, the seats recovered with original style covers from Classic Industries, new headliner, package tray. All new weatherstripping was installed.
New white letter tires and wheel center caps really look great against the blue paint. Of course, all new decals and hood bird were sourced from Phoenix Graphics and installed.
A new windshield and windshield wiper motor ensure that the view out front is clear.
This vintage Trans Am really is striking as it rolls down the highway-its impossible to take it for a drive without "thumbs-ups" and comments every time you stop. Due to the low miles, replaced parts and lack of damage-this bird drives down the road very well-no squeaks, rattles or unusual noises to mar the experience. The car always starts right up and accelerates smoothly down the highway with no pinging or hesitation. This Ta runs cool(even in Socal heat!) and produces good oil pressure. Very high gearing(positraction) means that this Trans Am is ready for cruising and road trips without worrying about high revs at highway speeds.
The power windows work well, all of the lights, wipers, signals work as they should. The optional remote trunk button works too.For added enjoyment, a modern radio(with a stock vintage appearance) was installed. It will accept aux inputs, etc and sounds great with new deck speakers.
Lots of convenience options like multiple lighting packages, added insulation, tilt wheel, custom cloth interior, tinted glass, rear defrost, etc mean that this one will be perfect to drive.
The paint also very nice driver quality, the doors open and close nicely with no sagging.
All of the original smog equipment is in place and it will pass California's stringent smog testing.
An added bonus is the factory build sheet(located under the rear seat) that is now protected in plastic.
Issues? Well, it is nearly a 40 year old car so it's not perfect. The AC, while complete, Is not currently functional. Everything is there and appears to be in good shape(compressor spins freely) I just haven't investigated it at this point. The tach also reads incorrectly. There may be a minor scuff or two here and there as well. That's about it.
In summary, here's a great chance to own one of the most iconic years of the Trans Am. Consider the low miles, two owner history, highly optioned, factory stock condition and a one year only color and you have a special Trans Am.
Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
