Everyone that ever saw Smokey And The Bandit knows what this car is, and everyone that saw it wanted one! There's just something about the black and gold Special Edition Trans Am flying accross the country, being piloted by the outlaw "Bandit" Burt Reynolds and his lady friend "Frog" Sally Fields, out-running the police, having fun, and showing off. These cars are instantly recognizable and an iconic part of both movie and automotive history. That is why they are so sought after today. They continue to rise in value and will always be in demand.

I wanted to build the most solid and beautiful Bandit Trans Am possible, so I looked all over for the most solid, clean canidate availible. This car started out life as a Pontiac Firebird Formula. It was always garage kept and pampered, so the body was in pristine condition. The car was completely disassembled down to a bare body shell, stripped to bare metal, and literally every single nut, bolt, and screw was painstakingly restored to the #1, concours condition Bandit Trans Am that you see here. The car exemplifies perfection in every way. The underneath of the car is as clean and as detailed as the top side is. No expense was spared, and no detail was overlooked. Every square inch of this car has been gone over with a microscope and restored to perfection. This Trans Am is even better than the one you could buy off the assembly line in 1978.

The thing that Hollywood (and GM) didn't want you to know back then, was that in real life, the Special Edition Trans Am "Bandit" was only putting out around 200 horsepower....so unfortunately, it wasn't really that fast compared to the musclecars of the 60's and early 70's. Even the most pedestrian cars of today routinely put out more than 200 horsepower. This particular Bandit doesn't suffer from that lack of power. It was built to look totally stock, but it is a real wolf in sheep's clothing! This one features a 6.6 Litre, 400 cubic inch W72 block, with Pontiac #62 heads, bringing compression up. It also features a Pontiac "068" Ram Air III camshaft with Ram Air III factory header-style exhaust manifolds, exiting into a full stainless steel Pypes 2.5 inch "X" crossover dual exhaust system. I also had a custom shaker system built so that the engine breathes cold air through the scoop in the hood as the early 70's Trans Ams did. The carburator is a brand new Jet Performance Stage II Q-Jet, and also features a new billet aluminum distributor. The original TH-350 transmission was completely rebuilt and features a shift kit and a seperate auxillary cooling system. Basically, what all of this means is that this engine puts out literally DOUBLE the power of the Trans Am from 1978! It has tons of power and loads of torque......and most importantly, the sound is simply exquisite. It revs up so fast and smooth that it almost has an exotic tone to it. Needless to say, you will garner plenty of attention everywhere you go!

The Black Deluxe interior of this car is completely brand new from the top to the bottom. The headliner was replaced. The carpet and door panels are new. Most of the interior plastic was replaced with all new units. All the seat covers are new, of course. Even the seat belts are all brand new. The steering wheel and the dash bezel are both dyed in the rich, beautiful gold tint that all the Special Edition Trans Ams feature. The radio is the orignal, working AM/FM unit. All of the lights and gauges work properly. The courtesy lights all work, including the original map lights. The clock works, and even the darn key buzzer works. The one thing that you will notice upon sitting inside this Bandit, is that the car literally SMELLS like a brand new car......which it is!

As for the exterior of the car, what can you say except, it's absolutely stunning. The Starlight Black paint has a deep, reflective look that is perfectly accented with the beautiful Special Edition "German Gothic" lettering and the miles of golden stripe that was all a part of the package, but it's the golden fire-breathing Phoenix on the hood that is the iconic feature that everyone knows and loves. The original Snowflake wheels were sent out and restored to factory condition on a lathe. The tires are new. All of the door hinges and latches were rebuilt and restored so the doors open and shut nicely. The hood opens and closes easily. The trunk clicks open and shut easily. Of course, there is no rust. There are no dents. There are no chips or scratches. It is literally perfect in every way.

All in all, this Bandit Trans Am is one of the nicest ones availible in the world today. You can look around to try to find a nicer one, but you won't. You can spend thousands of dollars and years to hope to build one like it.....but why not skip all the stress and just enjoy yourself now? You can drive it like the Bandit himself and use every bit of the 400 horsepower that it has on tap, or you can trailer it to any national car show in the country and put mirrors underneath it and win any trophy you want. Perhaps you'll want to do a little bit of both. The choice will be up to you.....but whatever you decide to do with this Bandit Trans Am, you will definately have plenty of fun!
