1940 Pontiac 2 Door -- Description

1940 Pontiac Deluxe Business Coupe $25,900. This car is a three owner vehicle with me being the third owner. The first two owners had the car for 62 years. The first owner passed it to his grandson who sold it to me. The mileage shows 50,993. I have in my possession the signed mileage statement from the grandson, who believes the mileage is correct. I also, after a thorough inspection believe it to be correct. The car was painted black... some time ago from it’s original gray color from the factory by the original owner. The paint shows very nicely with a slight patina as seen in the photos. It is not perfect but much too nice to repaint. There is absolutely NO RUST and on close inspection only very minor cosmetic body repairs. This is a B Body vehicle with a 223 ci straight six. The transmission is a three speed on the column.Starting by looking over the exterior, you will note that the bumpers are in near perfect condition and were re chromed at some point. The exterior chrome is also in very nice condition. The beauty of this car, in my opinion, is looking at it from the front and then the business coupe body style which is so classic 40’s. The running boards were refurbished. All the locks, including the trunk lock are operational. The spotlight seems to be factory installed. Hubcaps and beauty rings are original. The Lester white walls give the car a great look and have plenty of life left in them. The interior dashboard is all original and other than some patina, is in perfect shape. All the gauges work. The turn signals were added many years ago and work fine. The addition of the Bakelite suicide knob is great and actually works as it was intended. Steering the car is really not any issue without power steering as it has a very light and positive feel. I have put some miles on going to shows and cruise ins and loved driving it. Always a big hit at the shows. This is a Pontiac which are few and far between and very desirable. The interior was reupholstered with a faux leather material and all the stitching was done exactly as the original, even maintaining the small chrome metal strips. Behind the seat is a storage area that was used, back in the day, by the salesman for their samples. The carpet is new with floor mats to match. The trunk is interesting with its two layers. Very clean and well kept with no rot or unsightly deterioration. The original jack sits there as can be seen in the pictures. In one of my pictures, I show the spare tire leaning against the bumper. That is usually kept behind the passenger seat, in the compartment, held in by a bracket that is still intact. I keep the tire in the trunk but it could be relocated back to its original location. The engine compartment has been fully detailed, keeping the 6V and all the original wiring intact. The carburetor has been rebuilt. Fresh distributor cap, rotor, points and condenser were done in the last 500 miles, as well the fan belt and hoses. Original starter and generator have been serviced and work fine. The engine starts right up and runs very smoothly. The car is just great to drive. For me just very relaxing. Looking under the car you will notice it is and was immaculately kept. The rear leaf springs still have the factory covering. Nothing hanging or out of place. All original and in good condition.I have some goodies that I’ve collected in the way of literature, etc. that will go with the car. Also, since it is a six volt system, I have the original replacement battery and keep an Optima for a spare which is very light and holds a charge for any emergency situation that would require a fresh battery. It is a 6V, so jumping with a 12V is not a good idea.I can be reached anytime on my cell 386-341-8490 (Ben), to arrange a test drive and inspection, which is encouraged. Shipping is available for a reasonable price within 600 miles of Tampa, Florida.
