About Pontiac's Catalina 2+2 Model:
The Pontiac Catalina offered the upscale 2+2 option beginning in 1964 as an upscale big brother version of the GTO, which was also offered for the first time that year. It would include bucket seats, center console, special door panels and exterior badging. In 1965, the 2+2 package option now came standard with a 421ci V8, dual exhaust, a performance 3.42 axle ratio, heavy duty sports spring & shock absorbers, and decorative faux louvers on the exterior body. Additionally, the old Hydramatic transmission was replaced with a new Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed synchromesh automatic transmission. Although it was still an option on Pontiac's B-body platform, the Catalina nameplate would not be found anywhere on the car, just the prized 2+2 designation!
