1967 Porsche 912 Light Ivory, Rust Free, Original Floor Pan Numbers Matching
1967 Porsche 912 Description
For sale: 1967 912 - Light Ivory Exterior, Black Interior. At first look this car looks like a basket case, however it is surprisingly far from it. This is a 1966 built 912 that was built for the 1967 market.
Lets start with the bad and the obvious. Someone has added wider fiberglass fender flares to the original car and put it into primer. Although this can be a desired look these days, my intent was to put it back to original.
When I first found this car I was actually very surprised to see how original it was despite the exterior appearance. The car is numbers matching engine and gearbox (verified on the phone via Porsche NA a few weeks after I ordered the COA). The physical COA is still in the mail but should be here shortly. The gauges are original and correctly date stamped and look to never have been removed from the dash. The odometer shows 26,XXX miles. One would naturally assume this is 126,XXX or greater.. however I then discovered several old registrations and other documents in the car showing previous registrations from the 80's, 90's and above with around 20,000 miles. The next thing that was surprising to me was the floor pan is rust free and original. Although this car has the carpet removed, the original horse hair padding remains intact in the car! You can see the doors have the original Light Ivory Paint on the inside as well as glue marks.
I see no rust anywhere, floor pan is original and unmolested, nothing in the front horse shoes, rear partial shelf is solid... amazing isn't it?
The car runs and drives. The engine looks to have original parts. I did order but have yet to put on the Solex carb rebuild kit. Also, last week I removed the mechanical fuel pump from the car as it was sticky. I have a gasket rebuild kit ordered.
The car needs fenders flares replaced and paint. The rest is put carpet in, clean and drive.
I have sourced full rear original SWB quarter panels (Not reproductions) and a front and rear bumper which are included with the sale of the car to help get the car back to original. Please note I prefer to use original parts on my cars, which means these are used and may require more metal and body work than a reproduction would. Lots of value in the parts I have added to put the car back to original, reproduction short wheel base quarters sell for over $2200 each! Total there is over $6000 in original parts added.
The glass is all there *less the windshield - I will have to double check to see if I have it, so do not count on it please* The dash is original and near mint -$$$. Door panels, and the remaining upholstered interior items are all there. Some is original and could be cleaned and used, others may need replaced.
Clear title in hand, All original vin tags are intact or included. All in all, I think this was a prime example of a very original car that unfortunately someone had to mess with the original exterior. However, with the included parts and some new paint this car could still be a very nice example of an early 912 with a lot of the car still being very original and unmolested. Overall this car has a lot of value in original parts that you would not have to spend time and money replacing otherwise (dash, floor pan, hidden rust etc).
