You are looking at a survivor 1981 Porsche 924 Turbo. This Porsche has been cared for by the same owner since new.
Unfortunately the death of the owner and sale of the house forces the sale of this vehicle. It is also in need of a turbo rebuild (common issue) and other work as noted below. It has a squeaky clean Carfax as well. Below is a video collection of this Porsche: (1981 Porsche 924 Turbo - YouTube) Video will open in a new window [isdntekvideo] (1981 Porsche 924 Turbo - YouTube) Video will open in a new window [isdntekvideo] (1981 Porsche 924 Turbo - YouTube) Video will open in a new window [isdntekvideo] Please scroll down and enjoy the 250+ photos. Unfortunately, it sat in their garage for years, and it appears that the turbo will need to be rebuilt. These use engine oil to cool the turbo and we had the car inspected by a local Porsche mechanic that found loads of oil in the turbo unit which is being fed in the motor.
The odometer was repaired and reset on 6/22/1983 when the vehicle had 22,723 miles. If you add the odometer reading currently at 26251 miles, the vehicle has an original 48974 miles. This is supported by the maintenance book and receipts. The Carfax is squeaky clean with only a handful of entries and 26,000 miles. In addition, he did a leakdown / compression test. The data was all four cylinders showed approximately 135-140 lbs of compression and passed the leakdown test. What he also found is that after properly prepping the engine and starting it, is that the oil pressure light is on at idle at times, and there is some valve clatter. He was concerned that the lower end may need bearings but until the turbo is fixed, there would be no way to know.
The good news is that this can all be repaired, especially if someone knows (and loves) these cars and can do their own work. Parts can be found and the turbos can be rebuilt for around $500 not including labor. This original paint / extremely low mileage car is worthy of repairs, even if it means the engine needs to come out do do so. Note that due to our findings, this car should be considered a project and not driven until the engine is repaired to prevent any damage. It is being sold as-is.
Given the ultra low mileage, condition of the interior, transmission and body, it is hard to find anything cleaner than this. The paint is outstanding and the original color combination with a leather interior and original Blaupunkt radio. It also has the books and receipts. There are very minor marks, chips and small touch ups on the body but it is the nicest we have seen over the years.
If you are looking for a new car, no squeaks or rattles, or the reliability of a Toyota Camry, this car is not for you. If you like a project and understand what you are buying, this vehicle deserves a closer look. We ask that bidders know what they are buying.
