1986 Shelby Omni GLHS -- Description

1986 Shelby Omni GLHS 9,250 Original Miles! Climate Controlled Storage Since New Same Owner Since Early 1987 #148 of Only 500 Produced Excellent, Like-New Condition VIDEO WITH LISTING Consignment Sale VIN: 1B3BZ18E7GD251154 This GLHS is right up our alley, as it’s a total 80s oddball, which we love. The GLHS, or “Goes Like Hell S’more” was the hottest variant of the Omni, with a 2.2L Turbocharged I4 and 5spd manual delivering 175hp and 175lbft to the front wheels. In such a small car, this was a seriously potent... package, good enough for 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and onwards to the quarter mile in just 14 seconds. Only 500 were built and only for the ‘86 model year; this particular car is #148 of those 500. This car is a pretty unbelievable “survivor”, it presents in as-close-to-new original condition as could be. The car has covered just 9200 miles over the course of its 32 year life, and been stored in a climate-controlled warehouse along with the rest of the owner’s collection. The car was built in March 1986, and the original owner only held onto the car for a few months before selling it to our friend Marvin in early 1987. Marvin drove the car for a few years before putting it away in his warehouse in the early 1990s. Upon taking the car out of storage, we drained the fuel tank and went through the fuel system, mounted new tires, replaced some shifter linkage, and flushed fluids. The car now runs and drives like it just left the factory. The turbo lag and noise is fantastic fun, shifts are nice and smooth, and the car is impressively quick over 3k rpm. As it sits, this is a true collector-level example; it is mechanically well-sorted, phenomenally clean, well-documented, very rare, and fresh out of long-term enthusiast ownership. Exterior: - Please see the video accompanying the listing, as the car is shown in detail. - Paint is original throughout, as confirmed with an elcometer. Elcometer reads between 2.5 and 3.5 on every panel. No touched-up spots and really no blemishes to note other than a couple very minor chips. Again, please defer to the video. - Zero body rust or bubbling. - Glass and light lenses are all clear, crack-free, and original. - Wheels are excellent, with no curb rash. Tires are brand new. Interior: - Interior is mint. The only deviation from as-new condition is the top of the driver’s door panel (where the driver’s arm would rest), as that area shows a little discoloring. Grey corduroy really doesn’t show any wear throughout. No fraying, scuffs, or anything of the sort, even on the driver’s outer bolster. Rear seats appear as-new. - Carpeting is excellent, with no evidence of any spills or anything. Black floormats are like-new as well. - Gauges are functional with the exception of the fuel gauge. Odometer reads 9,257 at the moment and is functional and accurate. - Radio is functional, as is the blower/heat/defrost. Air conditioning remains on R12 refrigerant and blows ice cold. Under the Hood / Underbody: - Car runs and drives extremely well. Fires right up and sounds fantastic, idles steady and cool, and accelerates without any hesitation. The truck tracks dead straight under both acceleration and braking, and did we mention it sounds great? Suspension is in excellent order, the car soaks up speedbumps very nicely. Wouldn’t hesitate to drive the car anywhere; it’s well-sorted and very confidence-inspiring. - Please take a look through the underbody photos, as it’s documented in detail. Underbody looks fantastic. Not even surface rust. Many of the suspension components still have clearly legible stickers on them. Konis shine bright red. - Car will be sold with a Bill of Sale from early ‘87, as well as the original manuals.
