1988 Toyota Other Description
This is the year Toyota Pickups were at their peak-- its indestructibility has become legendary (just google TOP GEAR TOYOTA TRUCK). Parts for this basic workhorse and its famous 22-R engine are easy to find. I have driven this truck to Iowa 2+1/2 times (2,400 miles round-trip) in the five years I have had it, without any hiccup or warning light. It has rust holes in the truck bed and bed side, but these just add character. Somewhere in its past it took a hit to the right rear wheel but it obviously didn't slow it down or affect the functionality. There is no parking brake so passing PA inspection will need some repairs-- maybe no problem if you live in New Jersey. Iowa has no vehicle inspection-- I just leave it in gear, as it is a stick shift. It starts reliably on the first crank if warm, or two if cold. It has been my only car; it is that reliable. And, fun to drive. CB radio (with weather radio) and antenna included. Aftermarket row of extra tail lights added to tailgate, plugged into trailer wiring, adds to nighttime visibility-- the row of LED tail lights doubles in brightness when braking; right LEDs and left LEDs flash to match turn signal or 4-ways.
AM/FM factory radio. No A/C to bog it down or complicate repairs. Carburetor. Manual windows never break.
Ignition is on dashboard-- a secret little key does it. The key slot on the steering column does nothing. Surprise, crooks!
Comes with hard hat. Stout chain with padlock and key to secure your load to the truck.
Rust is present under the truck bed, such as the spare tire retaining chain, but the frame is solid and the engine area is comparably clean and does not drip. (There is no spare tire, but it has the original bottle jack and lug wrench.) There is a small hole in the plastic face of the climate control switches. Five speed. External powered speaker wired to the CB/NOAA Weather radio is behind the seat, the perfect place to let the sound emanate loud enough to hear over hiway noise or just to impress bystanders at the park.
