Condition Report:
This vehicle has been stored for years in a garage. It needs to be cleaned, restored or reconditioned. While it appears nearly complete, it has not been started in years, the keys are missing, one alloy wheel is missing, the tires are dry rotted and there is mouse debris in the car. It is also been modified slightly when you look at the dash configuration and aftermarket alarm. Also note the undercoating. We are unsure of the underbody condition under the thick undercoat but did see pinholes in the floor when lifting up the mats.
The paint appears to be originally white and changed to yellow in the 1980s. The vehicle is dirty, the paint has marks and scratches from storage as shown, the condition of the engine is unknown. We are unsure if the engine is original to the vehicle but believe it probably is. In addition, the center portion of the wood dash is missing but these are inexpensive on eBay. It may need subframe work but it looks fairly solid. It will probably need brakes, lines, clutch slave cylinder and a number of other components and work to run and be roadworthy. The numbers stamped on the block are FM17462UE, and the VIN number is located on a tag affixed to the windshield frame.
The good news is that most every is reproduced or can be purchased used and it is complete or nearly complete aside from what is mentioned above. It also has a clear WI title. The interior shows some wear and needs a good cleaning as well.
To summarize, it is our opinion that this vintage 1970 Triumph Spitfire would make a great restoration project, but needs a reconditioning or restoration and is being sold as-is-where-is. This rare find would make a great project for the Triumph or British car enthusiast, father and son or weekend mechanic.
