Solid, good running classic
1978 Triumph Spitfire Description
Nice little British roadster that does everything you want an old car to do: it runs good, shifts good, stops good and looks good. Car is solid and still has its original floorboards, rockers and sills, which is rare on a 40 year old Spitfire. Numerous parts have been replaced in the last year to make this car fun, safe and reliable. Those include a new clutch, new brakes, new tires and new paint. The dealer accessory package from 1978 that included wheel trim rings, side stripes and a luggage rack is also on full display. The car does NOT have the optional overdrive or a factory hardtop. Take it from me, factory hardtops are over rated. They are heavy, have to be stored, and usually have lousy weatherstripping. More trouble than they are worth. The interior in the car is mostly new with recent addition of molded carpet and factory original door cards and houndstooth seat covers. Sun visors and vinyl dash top also are fresh. An aftermarket radio/CD player is attached to rear speakers in a separate enclosure. Nothing was cut up for the speakers.Car comes with top boot, tonneau cover and original tool kit in trunk. Soft top on car is tired but functional on the rare occasion you prefer to drive with it up. Plastic windows are clear. See photos.Several weatherstrips on the car have been renewed including the windshield seal and the door seals.Electrics work as designed with minor exceptions (Hey, its Lucas, after all!) Horns work on some days and not others, and dash lamp dimmer is inoperative. Dash lights work, just aren't adjustable.Reserve on car is substantially below rated book value (NADA and Hagerty guides) so bid early and often. These cars are appreciating in value as younger generations discover the charm and fun that driving a British roadster can provide. As like every other machine released from Britain with a crankcase, the car drips a bit of oil, but not excessively. Again, part of the experience!Car is sold as is where is with no warranty of any kind included. It is an old foreign car, after all. It ain't perfect, but it has garnered a far share of trophies from shows in my area, including one Best of Show in Class.Shipping is responsibility of buyer, though I will accommodate your shipper to the best of my ability on my end.As you can see from my feedback over 18 years, I am not in the habit of ripping people off. I have been as honest as possible in the description and will answer any questions until the end of the auction. No Paypal for payment. A cashiers check is fine, but it must be completely cleared before car or title leave my possession. Bank wire transfers are also accepted and preferred. Please don't ask if car can be driven to your home in Alaska, Outer Mongolia or anywhere else. I have no way of knowing! It may get you to Nome trouble free, and it may not make it two blocks. I recently took a brand new car for a test drive that literally didn't make it back to the dealership. They are machines. Anything can happen at any time. Carpe Diem, and good luck!
