1970 Triumph Other Description

Here is the story of this Triumph: When I was 16 and lived in New Jersey, my first car was a 1970 Triumph GT6+. I drove that car for 6 years and fell in love with it. I caught the bug later in life and went looking for the same car and in 2006, I found a great example of one in Colorado Springs. I purchased the car in September 2006 from a family that owned the car since new. The original owner was a husband and wife that bought the car in Colorado Springs new then sold it to her father in July 1986 (I have the title and dates / documentation). The owner was a mechanic at the local defense company in Colorado Springs and restored much of the car as he was a tinkerer and a fan of the car. Although not originally an overdrive car, he installed a new transmission and the overdrive unit. It did work for a while and I am told it just needs points to get it enabled again. I also have the original transmission. This is a very RARE option to have on a GT6+. He restored the interior, painted the car British racing Green (original paint was the blue--see the trim tag pix) and he did a decent job. He installed a new dash (slight crack now), new seats, carpet and door panels, new tires and original hub caps (hard to find). Since I owned it, I have redone all the brakes from the master cylinder, front calipers, lines and four wheels, installed a stainless steel exhaust, found an original Triumph AM radio, installed a new water pump, radiator & shroud, wires plugs and coil, starter. The original wooden dash is in excellent condition. As with all British cars, it leaked oil in several places and I had the gearbox pulled and new seals were placed in the rear engine seal, pan gasket, speedo seal, rear end etc... It helped considerably but I still get a little oil on the garage floor. The car runs well, starts every time and I use it on Sundays when the weather is nice. I don't drive it in the rain. It hesitates a little at RPM above 3,500 and it probably needs adjustment and fine tuning. The car does not smoke at all and I had the compression checked when I first got the car and the test was very consistent between 185 and 190 for all cylinders. (I have test documentation). Its a very solid car and a great example of this model and I hate to sell it. I recently purchased a 1971 Corvette (the other car I loved as a young man) and I need the room in the garage. There is no visible rust on the car however, these cars are prone to rocker panel rust and the previous owner installed sheet metal in the front wheel wells as a preventative measure and you can see some slight bubbling in the panels but absolutely no rust breakthrough at all. Floor pans are clean and all in tact and only a little surface rust underneath that comes along with a car that is 45 years old. I also installed the wooden wheel (I have the original as well) as the wooden wheel is smaller and provides more leg clearance. I reserve the right to sell the car locally as I hope it finds the next owner that loves this car. I will require a non-refundable $1,000 deposit within 24 hours of purchase and the car must be picked up within 10 business days. Buyer is responsible for all shipping and details. The car will be sold as is, where is with no warranty. It is also available for inspection by appointment.
