1973 VW Transporter Bus. Barn find, all original body, engine, trans, NO RUST
1973 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Base Description
Up for sale is my 1973 VW Transporter. This Bus is an amazing barn find vehicle. I found this bus in a garage in the Philadelphia area where it had last been registered on the road in 1989! The Bus is a very rare, first year automatic transmission vehicle. It has the original engine which has been rebuilt, complete with more reliable Weber carbs. New brakes, new tires, etc. I have put about $17k in refurbishing the mechanicals with a focus on preserving the originality of this vehicle. The interior is all original with the exception of new seat covers in the front. It is in amazing condition inside, has the original dash, rubber mats, venting tubes, even the original plastic spare tire cover! This Bus can be driven as is reliably or you can continue the restoration back to glory.
Now for the most amazing part...
If you have been looking for one of these, you know that rust is the major factor. This Bus was parked in a garage out of the elements for 27 years. As a result, there is NO RUST in any of the usual places. It is incredibly solid in the body, floors, frame, etc. The bus even has the original paint on every panel (with the exception of some rock chip repairs in the front). When I got it it was extremely faded but after taking a buffer to it, the paint cleans right up! Original glass, rubbers, basically everything is preserved! You will not find a better one of these anywhere!
The bus runs and drives very well with good power in all three gears. You can drive it anywhere.
Please note: I am not a dealer or a mechanic. I am listing this vehicle to the best of my ability and knowledge. Please ask any questions prior to bidding and I will do my best to answer. I do not have a workshop, just a simple garage but I will work with you if you would like a professional evaluation. All sales final!
