1963 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible Description
Wow! Wouldn't this be a beauty all restored and ready for the road!? Great project for an awesome outcome!
Pure Classic!
Bought in Germany and used to tour Europe. Shipped by VW to Los Angeles. This car has never been driven in the snow or out of California. It has no snow rust.
I bought in 1967 with 28k miles and owned ever since. In 1978, I had the motor rebuilt by a VW trained motor man who was German educated and worked at the VW Factory in Germany. Motor was brought up to max power by him. Same VW man serviced car from 1967 to 1984. Car was last restored in 1985. In 1986, the car was put in storage and has not been driven since.
Changes made:1984 - Electric system was converted to a 12 volt system from orig. 6 volt.1982 - Wood cowing of the rear to hold the top to the body came lose and water ran into floor pans on both sides. When found out, the rust had already started. That is the reason both floor pans were replaced. With the cowing broken, I decided to replace the plastic window with a glass window that came out in the 1960's. Cowing was replaced with top and steel band.
All parts of convertible are accounted for. Please see pics. I also had a 1968 Karmann Ghia and have spare parts that I will include as backup.
Now that the car and I have both gotten older, the car has weathered better than I. I did not understand that we both got older but the car did not change with age like Ihave. So not having the get up and go that the car still has, I have made the decision to sell the car.
Local Pickup Only. Sold As Is.
(Note: I am listing for a friend. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. I also need to confirm mileage. I did not log that information. Thank you! Francie)
On Nov-18-16 at 07:17:49 PST, seller added the following information:***Please note: When I view the listing, there is a "Uship" option that pops up. (???) This item, as stated previously in the description, is listed for local pickup only. I am trying to disable the Uship feature. (Uship shows a quote for $130. That scares me. The vehicle has the body, all those parts, manuals/literature, etc. How can someone ship for $130?) If you are very interested, please contact me prior to purchasing to coordinate pickup/delivery. Thanks! Francie
