Up for sale is a 1971 VW Westfalia in almost all ORIGINAL condition. It is easier to list what isn’t original than what is. She is one of the best buses I have ever seen, and doubt I will ever see one again in this nice of condition. All of her doors open smoothly, and all the locks are in working order. She has been garaged her entire life and treated with kid gloves and it shows.
This is the perfect vehicle for those summer camping trips, a 1971 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper. Often called Westies, these vans with built-in campers still retain a huge following and have been one of the hottest classic cars of 2018! This one is a harder to find early type 2 bus that has the full size pop top!
She has her light hoods, hub caps, horn, fridge, seats, table, stool, storage, front hammock, rear screen, the list keeps going, even her gas cap! This bus runs and drives beautifully and shifts just like it should. I will say, this bus is not for racing! It is so slow, but so cool! It is a cruiser, a fantastic one, so don't expect to outrun the cops or anyone for that matter, that is not what this camper is about. This is an air cooled engine and her top speed is about 65 mph.
If you are not familiar with these older campers, the sink is not electric, it is a manual pump style, and has a large 5 gallon tank mounted between passenger rear seat and behind the "fridge". I put that in quotations because that too is not electric, it is only an ice box, meaning its more like a cooler! You can store ice in it to keep cool, and as the ice melts it has a drain tube along with the sink drain that flows out to the bottom of the bus onto the ground.
The rear seat can fold flat to create a bed, and up top on the camper part, is a bed that folds open to lay in. Both of these sleeping areas are roughly full size. Queen or full size sheets fit well. Her pop up is one of the few items that is not original. She has a 1974 pop top that has the full size bed in it. Much better for camping than the swinging narrow cot that was too scary to sleep in.
She has a full set of magnetic window covers. These go on either the outside, or inside of the windows, and give you plenty of privacy! As mentioned early, she has the front hammock. If you look, there are little brackets by the drivers and passenger'ssides of the front window. These are two of the spots the hammock corners side into. These are intenselyrare to find still with their bus.
She had a new paint job and interior put in about 8000 miles ago. She was originally red with a tan interior, but the orange and white just makes her shine. The original engine with, wait for it, the flash on the back (super rare) was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago. Her odometer currently reads 33432.She was originally from California. Due to her Retro age bracket, she does not need to be smogged if she moves back to California.
