1979 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Vanagon Description

The Westy you've been dreaming about!

Hate to see it go, but this Westy needs a home that will take it on many adventures. We bought it 3 years ago and had it shipping from California (where it lived its first 35 years). It has only had two owners and it has been garage kept and in a non smoking family. It is in amazing condition and really fun to drive. Unfortunately, we don’t have the time to take it on the adventures it deserves. If you are ready to hit the road, this Westy is ready to go.

The interior and exterior are in great condition. It has a working sink, interior lights and new Kenwood CD/Bluetooth stereo. The original curtains are in excellent shape as well as the child hammock, rear snap-in mosquito screen, and insulation/privacy curtains (perfect for chilly fall camping nights). The swivel table is in excellent shape. The Pop-up is in good condition. There is a 12” tear in the side (see pictures) and the front screenhas a few holes and can be replaced.

This bus drives great! It travels comfortably at 70 mph on the highway. Brakes are solid and transmissio works great, there are no gear pop-outs. The interior and exterior lights work as does the gas gauge and wind shield wipers, only the temperature gauge does not work. Heater and rear defrost work too!

Since we’ve had it, we have had it fully tuned and inspected.
Other work we did includes:

Replaced steering box

Replaced shifter bushings

Replaced both inner front CV joints

Replaced wheel cylinders and flushed brakes

Rear brakes cleaned and replaced brake drum

Front wheel bearings overhauled

Complete oil and brake flushing

Fuel injector lines flushed

It came with the Hayes VW Transporter 1600 Owner’s Manual with great notes from the previous owner.

We installed a custom 2” inch rear receiver hitch. It is perfect for a rear bike rack. It also has two Yakima top rails that were installed previously, perfect for hauling a kayak or cargo box on top.

Previous to us owning it:

Upholstery was replaced (with the original plaid design) and is in excellent condition. I believe it has been repainted to its original green, which is in great condition. There is a small scratch on the rear left side but it may be polished out. The rear bumper has a dent that can be banged out. The stationary windows as well as the front and rear windows have new seals. There are four seat belts - two lap/shoulder belts for front bucket seats and two lap belts for the rear bench seat. The front passenger seat swivels to face the rear.

This vehicle is located in Northern Virginia. If you are serious about buying, feel free to come by and inspect the vehicle or have it inspected by an ebay independent inspector. Inspections must be done before purchase. This vehicle is almost 40 years old so it is not in perfect condition and naturally shows some wear and tear. It does not come with a warranty and is sold AS IS. The 5-digit odometer reads 72,019 miles, but true miles are unknown. No returns, and I assume no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any statements about this vehicle.
