1976 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description

1976 VW Automatic Sunroof, with dealer install A/C

I have owned this since 2016, it has been in storage since 2010.They stopping using it when they purchased a new van. They said they owned it for 15 years and had the engine rebuil, transmition rebuilt and a cheap paint job done in the first years of their ownership. They said they purchased it from a dealer lot after it was traded in by a couple of teacherswho purchased it new and used it for summer camping. I do not have the bills to prove this.

There is little rust, just the normal rocker cover and infront on the wheel wheels. The bottom looks solid and I have put include the pictures. I purchase it to restore and to put a camper top on it since it has the sunroof, it an easy add.

I did some work on it last summer, so the brakes are workand I started it. The fuel pump relay is bad. It has the original fuel injection system. One of the high-pressure fuel line had cracked so I replaced it. With the relay bypassed I was able to drive the car in forward and reverse in the driver way. After that additional leak came from the fabric high pressure hose to each injector. So at a minimum to run the fabric high pressure fuel line need to be replaced. This was a common cause of fire in early fuel injected bus and bug.The fuel pump relay is bad so that is needed as well.

It has a builder badge from vancover wa. I could not find anything about the company so I think it just one of many who make the van into weekenders. The middle windows do have the slide screen.

I have not tried to open the sunroof on it. It does have a drivers windows it just rolled down for now.It has what appears to be a dealer install A/C system. The front part is their as well as the controls and ducking. The compressor and other parts are no longer in the engine bay. So I suspect it was removed when the engine was rebuilt.

I do not know the true mileages of thebus. The speedometer says 21708 but only goes to 100K and roles over

The tires hold air and the bus roles easily so loading it on a trailer should not be an issue. But it does not run.

It is sold as is.
