1967 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description

Got to sell my baby - 67 walk thru Westy CamperPrice: 25k
67 walk thru Westy Camper SO42
I have come to the realization that, due to age and health issues. I most likely will not be able to finish my baby. I bought this in 2006. I took it all apart and had all rust areas and bottom, media blasted. All other painted areas were chemically stripped. All rust was cut out. Then the entire body was Ospho'ed. This bus should never rust again. At least $1800 on new metal from Gerson and others. Any other metal that was needed, was sources from other buses, to keep it as original as possible. 6 years of cutting, mig welding, and grinding. I have spent over 2000 hours so far. I added a third seat belt pickup point on the "B" pillar. To enable the use of 3 point seatbelts. For added safety. In addition I have spent approximately $10,000 on body work. You say 10 grand on body work? I agree. I went thru 12 bodyman, got screwed by a few. But I wanted it done the right way. All body work has been completed. I am talking outside, inside, bottom and places most would not see. New fresh air screens. Now it is ready for paint. I have everything needed to finish this restoration. All new rubbers, seat stand covers, pop top canvas, and all TMI seat parts from West Coast Metric, Clip 1, WCM, Wolfsburg West, and others. New complete wire harness $135. New curtains. I got the highest quality reproduction material from Japan. I sent the fabric to a experienced Samba member in NC with a high reputation for doing quality work $800. New repo side door threshold plate $95. New windshield washer bottle and parts.$75 New mustard yellow vinyl to redo the interior $325. I have most all camper SO-42 interior 2 head bangers, all nice tables, new screw plate for table leg. (Missing fridge and spice rack). I have already had the speedo and gas gauge restored. All new repro door handles $250. New NOS fried eggs $125. OEM gas float$55. 3 correct splash pans $200. 3 correct parcel shelves.. Front end is finished and looks and works as new. It comes with a Super Beatle engine I completely rebuilt. I have located and obtained a complete original #s correct engine. (No history but does turn and has compression $450. I have many specially extras. A perfectly restored original roof rack $750. Ambulance fans $550. Original side door step $285. Hi quality front door steps ( not that Empi crap ) $125. I have 3 locking steering columns. 1 new Brazilian lock cylinder $135. New bearings and bearing races for the steering box. New NOS. Cinex ? round English side view mirrors $325. Special rear hatch latch that opens from the inside $40. Original and working, correct 12 volt Eberspacher gas heater and all ducts and controls appx. $350. 2 Original rear hatch screens. Childs cot. Original 67 12 volt radio $125 (don't know if it works?) I also have the correct radio block off plate. I could go on and on. I purchased most new parts many years ago. If you were to buy them today they would cost considerable more. I am or was a professional ASE master mechanic. I have over 45 years of experience. I specialized in foreign, antique, and exotic automobile total restorations. I know what I am doing. I have done many, million dollar cars. My plan was to make this my retirement investment. I would love to finish it, show it, camp in it, but I don't think it will happen. I don't want to burden my kids to give it away when I'm dead. Look through my profile at the Samba I have posted many pictures over the years. If you think you will buy this and slam it, please move on. This has to go to someone who will respect it's originality. I know there is still a lot of work to do to finish it, but all the hard work has been done. This is the fun part of the restoration process. I know with what is happening weather wise in the world. These buses are getting scarce. Finished, this bus should be valued at appx 100k. I realize I can't get my 2000+ hours back, even at $5 per hour. (Lost labor of love) I would like to get back what I have into it. I have over $20,00 in parts and materials. I could part it out and get more $. But I want to sell it all together. I have listed it here on Ebay If you are interested give me a bid. I have put a 25k reserve on it. I will give it 30 days. I will then decide to either take the highest offer or hope I have another 6 months and try again. I will not sell any parts individually. Please don't ask. This is your chance to own a museum quality Bus. Call me anytime for more details and offers239-250-3157Larry Marks
