1973 VW Camper 32K original miles Solid Chassis Minimal rust!
1973 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description
Up for grabs is a 1973 VW Camper that I am selling for my sister in law. She bought this camper about 5 years ago and loved it (as did her kids). Well, she needs a hip, her kids are grown and moved out so off the VW has to go. I went up there this past weekend to get her running and to make sure she is road worthy. Here's what I can tell you. I changed the fuel filter and put in fresh gas. She drives fine. Plenty of power. Transmission shifts smoothly and she stops straight as an arrow. So basically nothing in the chassis, front end, suspension and brakes needs attention. All equipment is in great condition chassis wise. However (and there is always a however) she is smoking some (not all the time) and I think it probably has a stuck oil ring from sitting so long. The power is still there, but it smokes a little. More under acceleration and minimaldecelerating. Just tooling along and she smokes a very little. Not bad enough to call DMV and complain, but she smokes and I want to get that point out there in the open to any prospective buyer. It seem to be almost fouling the #2 cylinder, but then you rev her up and it clears out and runs great again but still smoking a little. I drove her about 30 miles and all the other important things work just fine. Also, she has only 32K original miles and it shows, The seats and interior are near perfect with no rips or tears, All cushions are there and in perfect condition including all the components of the bed. There is superficial surface rust only and only a couple of small pinholes in the engine shroud and 2 by the wheel wells that are smaller that the diameter of a cigarette. Rockers are solid as are all body panels. There was some repair done by the battery tray which is pretty normal in these vehicles. She has the original fridge as well. The top does go up but I didn't bother trying to raise it up. She said it was in good condition the last time they used her and other than the funky carpet they put on the pop up portion, everything else is original. All glass is good but a little fading around the windshield as you can see in the pictures. Always lived in a garage. A little TLC and she will be perfect! Note: The car is located in Canton Connecticut, NOT NC! Oh yeah, 4 new tires as well! Any questions please call (203) 223-3297
