1983 Volvo 242 GLT Turbo Rolling Chassis Shell & Engine ECU Intercooler Motor
Up for bid is a stripped down rolling chassis with complete driveline (engine, transmission, and differential). The car has a salvage title.
The car appears to have been a low mileage (just over 78,000), rust free car UNTIL it was in Hurricane Sandy, which hit Long Island and NYC in 2012. The car had some level of flooding with either fresh or sea water and was auctioned with a salvage title.
I have disassembled the car to supply parts for another car. It is my observation that the floodwater did not make it over the door sills, but I could be wrong. The chassis has rust in the floor pans but otherwise the body is really great. The left rear pan has a large hole in it and the 2 front pans are rusty. I have removed the doors, fenders, trunk lid, and other front end body parts. The entire interior is gone including the weather stripping for the rear vent windows. The engine and drive train have been left complete but some parts were disassembled to access the bumper shocks, etc… The car has an oil cooler and intercooler. The ECU and Ignition control unit are included. I had the car running when I first received it, but it had the symptoms of a bad head gasket (blowing white smoke, coolant reservoir empty) so I assume the engine needs a rebuild. It could drive back and forth in my driveway, but it leaks transmission fluid.
While I was parting it out several people contacted me wanting to buy the chassis, so I have listed it here. I want to be really clear that I have stripped the car extensively and it is really a chassis and driveline at this point. Someone with bodywork skills could either revive this chassis or cut out the clean rear quarters for another car. Please ask questions to be sure you understand the condition of the car.
