1979 Volvo 244 DL 119K Miles Carlsbad Yellow & Brown Cloth Southern Car 240
1979 Volvo 240 Description
1979 Volvo 244 DL 119K Miles Carlsbad Yellow & Brown ClothUp for bid is a 1979 Volvo 244. The odometer works and the mileage read 119,000 miles. This car is a strong runner and a looker. 240’s are quickly increasing in value as collector’s cars and this yellow color adds to the character of this vintage. The car is great fun to cruise around in, but not without some flaws. Please read the detailed description below and review the pictures. Please contact me with questions. The good:Replaced heater core and heater fan, Summer 2019New transmission pan gasket, Summer 2019Updated to late 240 AC system.Recently refinished alloy wheels with new Goodyear tires (less than 2,000 miles).New exhaust head pipe, Summer 2019The dash pad is in great condition with just one crack. The car has relatively low mileage and is a solid Southern car. The bad:The original brown seat covers have faded to a purplish color. The driver’s seat lower cushion and cover were beyond salvage, so a rebuilt lower cushion replaces it. I have sourced a matching seat bottom cover and am including it. The car was resprayed at some point with a poor-quality paint job. The clear coat is peeling in many places.A previous owner installed aftermarket side view mirrors and the bolts are still present on the door. This could be filled before the next paint job.The new transmission pan gasket leaks. There is an exhaust leak. The heat does not appear to work, I suspect the heater valve controls were not re-connected.There is an aftermarket radio, I don’t recall it working.Last summer I had a local shop address a transmission fluid leak, a heater core leak, and an exhaust leak. I supplied a very low mileage heater core and heater fan, a new exhaust head pipe and a transmission pan gasket. Once the work was completed, there is still a slight exhaust leak where the new head pipe mates to the catalytic converter, a transmission fluid leak from the pan gasket, and the heat does not seem to work. These should all be simple to address. I suspect the heater core is installed correctly, but perhaps the control valve or controls were not hooked back up correctly. Prior to that work, the late model AC worked really well. I haven’t tested the AC yet this summer as I do not have the car registered. This car does not have any rust of concern. It was mainly a Southern car. It has been hit in the rear corner at some point and there is a small patch of rust under the left tail light. This could also be addressed with the next paint job. The floor pan and body panels are all solid with minimal surface rust in a few spots. There is only surface rust on a few door edges. The engine runs really well and it is a fun car to drive. Despite the bad paint job, the car looks great from a few feet away and people wave and look at it wherever it goes. With a little attention, this will be an outstanding 240. I have listed the best description I can think of. Please ask additional questions.
