1993 Volvo 940 Description
Up for bid is a Volvo 940 turbo wagon with 134,000 miles and in excellent condition. Car has a clean South Dakota title - we spent the summers with my 90+ yr old inlaws so the car is garage stored in NW Ohio and was only driven when we were there in the summer months. I have put about 16,000 miles on it in the 5+ yrs I've owned it. We're shortly moving everything back home so there is no room for the extra cars we've accrued. This is the ONLY reason I am selling this.
Body had minor paint work done due to a (typical) clear coat issue on the roof. Had an accident reported (was backed into and the grill / a headlamp broken). They were all replaced when I got it and I could find zero evidence of any damage underneath it or when installing the new ecode headlamps, radiator, etc. Originally came with a tan interior, I stripped it out after locating a complete black leather interior from a 97 965, as well as a new OE black dash. Steering wheel is a rare leather wrapped option from a 91 780 Bertone. The 965's matching black body moldings, handles, painted heated mirrors, door handles, hatch (spoiler and molded latch), side glass antenna, euro rails and power glass moon roof were also added. A new black headliner installed. Rare snow cap on the cowl. New 960 styled tail lamps and e-code European glass headlamps (with Xpel protectant film) were installed. Side markers also added. Lumar tint is 35% front; 15% sides. I do not notice it as being too dark in any way or at any time - reduces glare, cools the interior, keeps things from being sun baked and interior items from being seen. Also included is a new front plate bracket if needed.
A new Pioneer head unit plays through MB Quart component speakers in front (and MB Quart coaxial in rear) and are powered by an MB Quart 100w x 4 amp. While the dash was out, I installed a new original Volvo copper/brass heater core and blower motor - not because they were bad, but because it would never be easier to do. :)
About 10k ago, the suspension was completely overhauled with OE Volvo brand (no cheap chi-com garbage) or German made Febi, Meyle, etc. Ipd sways were added. A stainless steel 2 1/2" exhaust from front to back including a catalytic converter, resonator and muffler was installed. All new brakes, brake lines, calipers and rotors. All new wheel bearings, Boge-Sachs front and rear gas shocks/struts, upper strut mounts (Volvo OE). Ball joints and tie rod ends.
About 6k ago, we considered upgrading the turbo, but the builder was out of newer/larger housings, so we replaced it with a stock sized Mitsu 13C. A 40 yr Volvo master tech ported and installed the turbo, new cylinder head (valve job, Cometic layered copper head gasket - tight squish which increases the CR and allows for lower octane fuel usage with no adverse effects), water pump and a rare all metal large radiator. AW71 transmission was serviced and flushed with synthetic ATF. Of course all new hoses, belts, timing belt, tensioner, and seals. Both the chassis fuel pump and intank pump were replaced with new Bosch units.
About 1,000 miles ago, a new fuel pressure regulator, NEW injectors, plugs, wires, cap and rotor were done. Also serviced the AC with a newer condenser, drier and charge. Blows 47F at the vents. Battery is a 2 yr old Interstate. Also upgraded the alternator to a rebuilt Denso (much more efficient and higher output at idle).
Car sits on very rare 16x8 ARE 398 2pc rims - in original Volvo offset and bolt pattern. Wrapped in 225/50R16 Mastercraft Avengers with about 60-70% life left. Rides and handles wonderful. We get complements everywhere we go with it. About 3 yrs ago I was at a car show - not entered - just parked with the crowd and it received an honorable mention / people's choice award. A real head turner.
