This particular '65 Mustang Convertible is a car that I have a unique history with. I do not want to bore you but this story is pretty rare. This is the 4th time I have purchased this car!! I originally bought this awesome Pony about 10 years ago from a guy in Florida who had a beautiful restoration done to the car in 2001. He believed he was the 3rd owner and was told the car had spent most of its life in Georgia and North Carolina. He had the car restored with the thought that he would never sell it but life happens and he found himself in a situation where he had to let it go. I recall the day it arrived almost 10 years ago and I was truly impressed with the quality of the car from top to bottom. At that time these cars were a hobby for me. I drove it for a while and then passed it along for the next owner to enjoy who was a great car guy in Colorado. He owned it for close to 6 years and put less than 1000 miles on it during that time. He decided he was ready for something different and I had the opportunity to buy it back which of course I jumped at and brought the Mustang back to Georgia. At this point I had become a classic car dealer and it quickly found a new home with another great car guy who I still stay in touch with. He lived in Ohio but had a winter home in Florida. After enjoying the Mustang all winter in Florida he got the itch for more of a modern collectible and decided to sell the Mustang back to me to make room for an Aston Martin. Again, I was thrilled to have this Ivy Green beauty back and she arrived in exactly the same condition I remembered it when I had first purchased it. Well, of course a car this nice sells quickly so again it sold within a week to a great guy in North Carolina about 3 years ago. And, you guessed it, just recently I got a call from him letting me know he was ready to sell it and asked if I was interested in buying it back. Without hesitation I wired him payment and set up enclosed transport to bring this baby back to Georgia once again. So, why do I keep buying this car back you might ask? Well, I think after you see all the pics and listen to the video of it running you will know that this is one of those rare, quality classics, that anyone would be proud to own and add to their collection! So now you know the history!!
The restoration on this Pony Convertible has held up beautifully thanks to being cared for by car enthusiasts who only used the car on sunny days and always kept it garaged and detailed. It also always received professional maintenance. In fact, last year, the last owner brought the car in his to mechanic to take care of a rear main seal leak that had developed and after looking the car over he and his mechanic decided to treat the original 289 V8 to a complete rebuild There have only been about 500 miles put on the car since so of course it runs absolutely beautifully. This Ivy Green Metallic Mustang is a joy to drive thanks to the power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning when needed. The paint glistens in the sun and this color combination is original to the car and quite unique. I will do my best to provide you with enough large images, a video of the car running, and an honest description to help you decide if this sweet '65 belongs in your garage. As with all of my classics I do have it listed on my website and several others. Therefore, if you decide that this is the one for you and you want to scoop it up before the next car guy or gal does feel free to call me to discuss how we can make that happen. I welcome overseas buyers and I can assist the next owner with a great rate on transport, open or enclosed anywhere in the country. Sit back and enjoy!!!
As I have mentioned, this Mustang received a professional restoration about 15 years ago. When I first bought the car 10 years ago I was told the car was close to rust free before the restoration living most of its life in Georgia and North Carolina. The car still had all of its original sheet metal with the exception of the trunk lid which had a few dings and dents so it was replaced when restored. The car was repainted in the original R code Ivy Green metallic color that looks fantastic. The color glistens in the sun and takes on a darker tone in the shade or at night. You do not see this color very frequently and it is a great vintage color on this car. The paint still looks fantastic and it is obvious the car has continued to be detailed over the years. The only flaws to mention are a few rock chips that have been touched up and one very small bubble I noticed over the passenger side rear well that is barely noticeable. All of the chrome trim, bumpers, emblems still look fantastic. There is a tiny rock chip on the passenger side of the windshield that has been there many years. All of the other glass looks excellent and windows roll up and down nicely. Body panels are extremely straight and body panel fit is excellent. The doors fit great with no sagging. This is definitely a car that you can proudly take to all of the local shows and even the regional Mustang shows and win your share of trophies and awards. It is an older restoration that looks like it could have been just done this past year! I think the photo tour of the body below will show you just how nice it is:

I always recommend driving your classic Mustang Convertible with the top down every chance you get but it also nice to know that this Pony has a power convertible top that looks and functions great. The white is a great color contrast to the Ivy Metallic body. The top looks great still and rear window is still very clear. When you have the top down there is a great Palomino boot cover to give the car a very clean look. This Mustang looks great with the top up as well....here are a few pics for you:

Complimenting the gorgeous Ivy Green Metallic exterior is a stunning and classy Palomino interior that was also redone almost 15 years ago and still looks fabulous. You rarely see such a beautiful color combination as so many of these had either black or white interiors. Seat covers, door panels, dash pad all look great with almost no wear detected. The gold colored carpeting looks great overall with some minor stains under the passenger side rear mat. Steering wheel looks new with no cracks and the gauge cluster is crystal clear. When the car was restored a reconditioned speedometer was installed and the odometer was set to 0. At the time there was believed to be 128,000 miles on the car. The odometer currently reads close to 4120 miles so as you can see the car has not been driven much in the 15 years since it was restored. The original AM radio was removed by one of the previous owners and will be included with the car. It was replaced with a great custom auto sound digital am/fm that fits in the stock hole with no modification. Updated speakers were added in the stock dash speaker location. All of the gauges and lights appear to be working correctly including the courtesy light in the center console. Center console looks great as well and you will see this is a original Factory air conditioned car. The original A/C unit resides in front of the center console and the system was nicely upgraded at the time of restoration with a modern Sanden Compressor and conversion to R134 refrigerant. The interior really looks outstanding and is ready for the shows...take a look:

This Pony doesn't just look great, she performs great as well with plenty of giddy up! The car always drove great from the time I bought it 10 years ago to when it recently arrived again. This is a car that is ready to be driven and enjoyed the day it arrives! Evidently when the gentleman in NC brought the car in to take care of a leaky main rear seal his mechanic saw some things that concerned him and advised the owner to rebuild the motor. Whether it actually needed or not I am not sure but I have the receipt for the rebuild totaling over $7000 so needless to say this 289 V8 is driving great!! The rebuild was done about 500 miles ago and a little over a year ago. At the time the motor was rebuilt the owner also told his mechanic he thought the car was a little too loud for his tastes. It had tri-y headers on it so those were removed and they went back with stock manifolds. The car still sounds great thanks to the newer dual exhaust with the turbo mufflers. At the same time the power steering was gone through with all new hoses. This is an original C-code car but it was upgraded to a 4bbl intake and carburetor when it was restored which added a few ponies and runs really well! Power steering makes handling a breeze and the power brakes make stopping a breeze as well. This car really tracks down the road nicely and is a joy to drive at highway speeds of 65-75 with no problem. Front and rear suspension had been completely redone with new springs, shocks, bushings control arms etc. She handles great. Great set of BFG radial TA tires wrapped around a nice set of Styled Steel wheel with dark green pony center caps to match the car. She runs cool thanks to a newer 4 core radiator and new water pump. Automatic transmission shifts awesome and was rebuilt at the time of the original restoration. The engine bay has also been nicely detailed and looks quite original so you will be proud to pop the hood at any car show or cruise-in. The undercarriage is as rock solid as the body with no rust issues in the floorpans or torque boxes. The trunk is also in great condition and has the correct mats and spare tire cover. Make sure you watch the video that follows the pics below to hear how great this Mustang sounds.
