I am listing this 1982 Special Service Package (SSP) Foxbody Ford Patrol Mustang which is former California Highway Patrol (CHP) unit # 0559 for a friend who has some health issues and he is the registered owner of this vehicle. in 1982 “This Mustang Chased Porsches for a Living” and began its assignment at the the Solano CHP area office #365. This is one of 400 Mustangs that was purchased by the California Highway Patrol in 1982 at the cost of $6,868. These 1982 Ford SSP Mustangs were made specially for law enforcement use and the California was the first to use them. Once the Mustangs were received by CHP Motor Transport, its own police equipment was installed and they were unleashed to the streets as patrol vehicles.
There's is only a small number of these 1982, survivors which have been correctly restored using authentic and period correct equipment by the California Highway Patrol. This is a very rare vehicle and finding an accurately restored CHP Mustang in this condition is not easy. In addition this a fully documented SSP Mustang and its VIN number can be viewed at the Special Service Mustang.net web site where it’s VIN # is listed with all the verified 1982 SSP Vin numbers from the California Highway Patrol.Included with the purchase of this SSP Mustang is a Marti Report, original registration paperwork from California Highway Patrol in Sacramento California, a binder full of reports and memorandums between Ford and the California Highway Patrol.
In January of 2019, this Mustang/retired unit #0559 rolled across the Mecum auction block in Florida and was sold to highest bidder who currently resides in central California. A month later #0559 was strapped down in an enclosed Mecum transport hauler and made its journey back to California. Approximately five weeks later I drove #0559 to my home in Bakersfield where it received a complete CHP makeover. The meticulous transformation to 1982 began and after a few months #0559 became a mirror image to owners other 1982 SSP Mustang Unit #1234 which was featured in the 2018 California Highway Patrol and 2019 Emmy awarded video titled “My Christmas Eve”.
