1984 Jaguar XJS with Popular Chevrolet V8 Motor & Transmission Conversion
1984 Jaguar XJS 2 Door Coupe Description
I am listing this 1984 Jaguar XJS for my 80 year old father-in-Law. He has owned it for about 6 years and can no longer drive it.
I know very little about Jaguars and have had limited access to this vehicle. What I can tell you is this car really moves and is fun to drive.
Please call or email your questions as I want to be sure you get what you expect. (I am happy to check out any specific detail you'd like me to. (678-478-6957)
Here are a few details I know about the car.
The car was repainted before my Father-in-Law purchased it. The body is in very nice shape. The car was just sent to the detailer to be clay-bared and waxed. (It really looks good.)There is a very small bubble under the decal on the driver's side of the car which has been on the car since purchased. (Possible small rust bubble but I am not sure.) I don't see any rust on the body and the detail shop didn't mention finding any rust.
The motor is a TPI Chevrolet V8 that runs very strong and the Chevrolet transmission shifts nice and firmly (may have a shift kit in it which helps prolong transmission life).
The air conditioner blows cold and was recently charged by a mechanic chop. The compressor is a Chevrolet compressor and an on-off toggle switch was installed to enable the owner to turn off the compressor on cool days. The HVAC has 3 switch positions; Off, Heat and Cool/Defrost. Also, many times these vehicles have issues with the center vent opening. A dealership in Georgia provided the secret to ensure that vent blows all the time! (Critical in the Georgia heat.) In addition, a manual heater valve was installed in the engine bay which keeps heat out of the vehicle in the summer and provides heat to the vehicle in the winter.
The tires look like new but are actually 6 years old. They are fine to drive but you may eventually want to change them. (The car has sat in my Father-in-Laws garage quite a while which effects tire smoothness.)
The gas tank was replaced with an aluminum gas tank (see picture). This a real benefit as the stock gas tanks on these cars often leak as they get old.) A brand new Lucal fuel pump was just installed and it supplies the proper fuel pressure to the Chevrolet TPI V8. (An in-line fuel screen was installed to protect the fuel pump and a new fuel filter was installed to protect the motor's injectors.)
The interior looks good for a 34 year old vehicle. Looks like the seats may have been reupholstered. The headliner was replaced when my Father-in-Law purchased the vehicle and he later had the carpet replaced.
Other observations:The Cruse Control works, windows go up and down, windshield wipers work (single speed), spare tire is in the trunk, in-car antenna installed about 6 years ago, radio works (haven't tried the Cassette deck yet), headlights work (high and low beams), turn signals, flashers and brake lights work, brake master cylinder was replaced about 2 years ago, new brake pads installed on all 4 wheels within the last 2 years (even the ones on the rear!), electric fan on the motor works (no problem with over-heating), Father-in Law had the windshield resealed about 5 years ago, tiny chip in windshield, new fuel gauge installed under dash to work with aluminum gas tank (gas gauge on dash was tastefully blocked), speedometer works up to ~55mph (I use Waze instead), stock mags rims all around (including the spare in the trunk), I was told a piece of trim somewhere around the grill or front headlight bezels needed to be added (???), about 80% of the dashboard was re-cleared as the original finish looked bad over time (not perfect), there are no sun-visors (not sure if they came on the vehicle originally), steering wheel upgrade was done before vehicle was purchased, power steering works well and the original fuel door and filler was retained and it feeds the new aluminum gas tank.
As previously mentioned, I have had limited access to this vehicle. Please inspect the vehicle before it is picked, or if out of town please have a representative do so as I want to be sure you get what you expect. Also, feel free to call or email any questions. (Could also video conference, so I could walk the vehicle with you.)
Will work with Buyer's transportation service.
International shipping is fine.
