1993 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series 500E Description

1993 Mercedes 500E W124 Sports Sedan 68K Miles Pearl Black/Black

In case the Mercedes Benz 500E is on your automotive bucket list, you can now cross that one off.

I am pleased to offer this gorgeous 1993 Mercedes 500E W124 sport sedan. The car comes equipped with a 5.0 Liter 322 HP motor. It sold new for approx. $80k in 1993 and has maintained legendary status ever since. The VIN# is WDBEA36E4PB886196.

Mileage for this example is very low at only 68,2XX miles +/-. Most 500E’s have high mileage because they are such a thrill to drive. I suspect that the original owner of this car did not take full advantage of the joy of driving this car but as they say: “his loss is your gain.”

Color is black pearl metallic (code 199) with black leather interior. Can’t get a better color combination than that. This 500E also features the very desirable European headlights and tail lights giving the car a much more sophisticated look (no amber in the back). Take a look at the pictures and see if you agree.

This is truly a rare find. Don’t miss this opportunity to own an early 90’s “super car”.

Recent Maintenance and Proactive Maintenance:

– Jan 2017, reseal power steering fluid reservoir

– Replace steering center link including both tie rod assemblies and steering dampener replacement

– Replace Auto Trans. cooling hose left side

– Oil and filter service

– Replace Auto Trans. shift linkage bushing

– Replace rear lower ball joint right side outer

– Repair power antenna assembly

– Replace stereo head unit

– Fitted custom Borla exhaust (all original muffler and associated pieces to return to stock configuration are included with the car)

– The wiring harness was inspected by a professional and indicates no degradation and no need to replace or repair

According to Supercars.net:

“The 1993 Mercedes 500E is perhaps the most desirable and collectable Mercedes of the last 20 years.” If you’ve ever owned one, I’m sure you’d agree.

A Brief History:

Developed in conjunction with Porsche, the Mercedes 500E was based on the popular 300E model which had been released in 1986. Each 500E was transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche’s Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen during assembly and hand built, taking a full 18 days to complete each model. It was produced between 1992-94 in which time approximately 7200 cars were built. Besides a totally new engine, the 500E was also equipped with a hydraulic self-leveling suspension, 11.8 inch vented discs in the front and 10.9 inchers in the back, wider wheels and tires and shorter and stiffer springs which lowered the 500E nearly an inch over the 300E. While the resulting slalom time is nothing to boast about (61 mph), the 500E still manages a healthy 0.84g on the skidpad and a sports-car-like 116 ft stopping distance.

The engine was the same unit used in the 500SL but with a Bosch LH Jetronic fuel injection replacing the KE Jetronic and a redesigned intake manifold with longer runners that resulted in an additional 22 lb-ft of torque over that powerplant. The four speed automatic transmission and rear axle were also sourced from the 500SL and the 500E was also equipped with standard ASR (traction control). While there was no factory option for an override switch, many aftermarket tuners could provide this, lowering 0-60 mph times into the 5 second ranges. There were a few other slight faults with the 500E as well. The single windshield wiper arm was not very efficient and the interior ergonomics were less than perfect while for the price, the 500E could still not deliver the same amount of all-out performance as the E34 M5. The Mercedes was however an excellent Autobahn cruiser and could deliver a ride comfort and effortless power delivery at higher speeds in a manner that even the BMW M5 could not match.

Sell your soul for this car. This is perhaps the best driving sedan available. Acceleration is instant and brutal right off the line on up to any speed you want to try. Flooring it off the line will invoke ASR and leave everyone pinned to their seats. Handling is ultra precise with immense grip. The lowered stance and flared fenders look outstanding yet are still mature and stealth. Drive the car at 1/3 or 1/4 throttle and your passengers are cocooned in utmost comfort. The adaptive suspension resolves the ride/handling argument as well as anything to date. One dig in the throttle awakens the car with a deep V8 growl that mutates into a fierce roar that sounds great but never gets intrusive or loud. The seats are bolstered to match the car’s handling potential. The ABS aided brakes stop the car fast and straight from any speed with no noticeable fade. The transmission starts in second gear to smooth take off but a heavy foot or use of the trademark shifter makes 1st quite accessible. The 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly and in a unobtrusive manner if left to its own decisions. Thankfully Mercedes has retained the gated shifter that allows manu-matic shifting. This configuration still seems the best compromise between automatics and manuals.
