1975 MG MGB Description

This right hand drive MGB is fun to drive and gets a lot of attention. It handles well and would make an excellent replica 60's Monte Carlo Rallye racer. In many ways it's a blank slate waiting for the next owner.

Rare factory fully chromed wheels that are in good shape.

The engine runs well, the engine code contains an“H”,there are no emission controls, and no air rail ports on the cylinder head.

The dashboard is painted metal with the black “crash roll” like the MGBs from the sixties, this is original to the RHD MGBs of the mid 70’s, and the dash is painted in the body color.

All gears are smooth, can downshift into 1st while moving, no hesitation or grind.

The doors are very solid, no “crack of doom” by the wing windows.

Original wide English license plate holder on rear.

As a 43-year-old car it will be aproject for anyone, at this time there a few things that need attention:

High beam headlights work but do not stay on, so the switch needs cleaning, repair, or replacement.

The cardboard/paper glove box liner is missing.

There is a hairline crack on the aluminum housing of the rack and pinion steering. The MGB steers fine and there is no slop or noise in the steering. The MGB does come with an entirereplacementRHD rack and pinion assembly removed from another 1975 MGB in London.

There is no carpet in the MGB, the original pieces are all in the trunk of the car and could be used to pattern new carpet.

There is a 1 inch cut on the outer shoulder of the passenger seat, otherwise the seats are in very nice condition.

The door locks do not work, and the driver’s window is stiff to wind up and down. The trunk does lock.

The convertible top has separated about three inches at the front right corner and that separation is currently covered with black duct tape. The top appears to be original and is in otherwise good shape, and the rear window zips down.

The bumpers are rough and should be replaced if show quality is the goal. As a 1975 this MGB was a rubber bumper car but it has been converted to chrome bumpers and an earlier chrome grill.

The plastic MGB emblem on the grill is rough and should be replaced.

The tires are most likely 20 years old. Michelin 185/14 with weather checked sidewalls.

The rear axle was lowered with aluminum blocks to get to the chrome bumper height, but the MGB comes with the correct leaf springs that are either new or reconditioned and have not been installed. The front coil springs are correct chrome bumper height springs.

The engine compartment is original mineral blue, the MGB had a color change to Brooklands green in the past, and is now British Racing Green. The trunk is painted black.

The engine runs well but has the usual British droplet leak.

The overdrive switch may need to be replaced, overdrive stopped working one year ago. The overdrive worked in both 3rd and 4th gears.

There are no sideview mirrors on the MGB, and no existing mounting holes.

The door cards are not original.

The doglegs had a few small paint bubbles and were replaced with factory stamped metal. The frame metal within the doglegs was intact and resealed with zinc coating.

There are three small metal patch panels tack welded as top overlays near the driver’s foot area, the underside was sealed with zinc coating and rubber undercoating.

The rockers are solid, the lower front fenders are solid, the MGB has been thoroughly searched for rust and none is found.

Visually you will see repair on the right front fender above the wheel arch, and a Capate filler detector tool reads yellow in a few areas on the right front fender. The Capate tool also reads yellow over the dogleg welds.

The paint is considered a “ten-footer”, or fair to poor. The paint is heavy on orange peel. The paint is four coats of single stage so it can be sanded with 1500 to 6000 weight sandpaper and then polished. All the rubber seals that meet the paint are new.

The MGB is not currently inspected or licensed for driving on public roads, the title is a clearand in my name, I do have Texas license plates if you want to drive it home locally with a trip permit, otherwise you can send a transporter.
