1971 Volkswagen Bus with patina and 17" wheels, disc brakes, new engine.
1971 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description
The bus' name is Lola. She was made in Germany in 1971 and imported to New York, then sold to a teacher in Maryland. He drove all over the USA and Canada in Lola for many years. As you can see she has many great features, including the gorgeous, uniquesurface rust paint, with vintage style signwriting, a very solid body and custom interior. The front seats are walk through, with new retractable seatbelts. The rear bench seat has 3 lap seatbelts. All the upholstery is in new condition.
The mileage stated above is that shown on the odometer. Actual is almost certainly over 100,000, but with a recently fitted new 1600 dual port engine, new battery, new muffler etc. Lola starts first time and the drive is comfortable. Lola tracks in a straight line with a good steering box. The transmission is still strong and stays in all gears. This is the first year for disc brakes on a VW Transporter and due to a new brake servo, Lola stops on a dime. The rear brakes have new brake cylinders and new backing plates. The wheels are 17”, 225 45 R 17 all round, with only a few hundred miles on the tires. They fill out the wheel arches nicely as you will notice.
The front, doglegs, outer rockers and rear corners are solid. Some welding was done to areas like the outer rockers, then the new metal left bare so it blended it with the original patina. VW Bays are prone to rusting under the front window, but Lola is very solid there. There are of course some areas where the elements took a toll. The inner rockers have not been replaced yet. Lola also has some rust around the rear rain gutter, but this all adds to the character. Bumpers are solid. The wiring is in good condition, although one or two items are not hooked up, such as the reversing lights and rear side markers. Ignition switch and keys are new, but have not been coded to the doors. Front windows roll up and down easily and side jalousie style windows wind up and down properly. Thegas tank and sender are new, but the fuel gauge always reads full.
Extras include a tachometer, Kenwood CD, iPod player, fire extinguisher and if you want it I will include the rare full length roof rack.
