1958 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible RED California Car CHRISTINE
1958 Plymouth Belvedere Description
I have decided to sell another one of my personal auto collection. I have owned this car from about 1998. When I purchased this car it had spent most of its life in California and then a few years in Washington State.Purchase time it had 132,000 miles on it.This car has NEVERbeen in the elements - no rain, snow, storms, etc. It has ALWAYS been stored indoors.
This is an updated listing.I have been driving this car to car shows recently. I have also included some undercarriage photos as well. Check out the latest issue of Mopar Collectors Guide for some cool photos of the Christine movie cars, this is the same style of car except in convertible form. Just its a Belvedere not a Fury.
My research indicates that there was about 2500 or less Belvedere convertibles made for 1958. The Belvedere line is the upper scale of the B body lineup for 1958. Only the Fury is higher in trim levels. In 1980 this car took 2nd place at a WPC meet in Seattle. In the mid 80's it was shown at the TacomaMopars Unlimited Summer show and took first place twice.
At approximately 100,000 miles the engine was completely rebuilt to factory specifications by the owner in Washington. The entire front suspension was rebuilt with new components and brand new brakes installed as well. It uses silicone brake fluid.
I have taken this car to some car cruises, showsandinto town on occasion. Every year I take it out of my storage it starts right up without any hassles and drives to where I want it to go.
The exterior of this car is the original colorred and Irepainted back in 1998 or 1999 when I bought it because it was faded and not as bright as it should be. There was no rust or damage repaired at that time. This car has never had any rust issues. Another unique feature on this car is it came with dual trunk mounted antennas and dual mirrors. The trunk is painted grey primer because back in 1958 this would be correct, they were not painted body color.
The chrome on this car is original to my knowledge. It is in very good condition. The outside bumper extensions are showing small brown dots starting to form through the chrome. The rest of the chrome shines very well.
The interior of this car is original except for the carpet. The seats have never been recovered or dyed. The carpet was very dull and dusty from age. The carpet in the trunk and the cardboard panels in the trunk are reproduction pieces. The dash and associated parts are all in above average condition as well, being this car has never been in the elements. The radio does not function at this time.
The 318 engine runs excellent. I replaced the original 2 barrel carburetor with an aftermarket Edelbrock aluminum 4 barrel manifold and put on a Carter AFB that I purchased from Summit racing back in about 2002. I have the original 2 barrel intake and carburetor that goes with the car. The transmission shifts perfectly. The tires are like brand new.
The convertible top is original. It has never been replaced to my knowledge or repaired. The hydraulic mechanism works excellent as well, just a little slow going up. It is an off white color (greyish) because it is 60 years old. It might clean up and become bright white again, but I have not attempted to use any chemicals on it. The original convertible boot to cover the top when down is included.
I would have no issues getting in this car and driving it anywhere.
This car is as is, no warranty of any kind. You may elect to drive it home if you wish, but I would assume a car of this value would be better off shipped, in my opinion. Shipping is at your expense.
I will NOT sell this car overseas. I am motivated to sell this car before winter, as I do not want to store it again.
