1961 Pontiac Tempest Description

I want to start off by asking you to please call forhonest answers BEFORE you bid. Or better yet, come by and look at the vehicle or have someone inspect it for you. I do the best I can describing my vehicles and I include very good pictures that can be expanded. I do this to try and avoid any misunderstandings. It is impossible to list every little item on a vehicle that may or may not beimportant to a buyer. Thanks.
Also, please read thepayment section carefully. Iwill not vary off of what isexplained there. Cashiers checks may have hold put on them by my bank. My bank will give me a letter of how long the hold will be. I will forward a copy of the letter to you. The length of hold depends on the bank that it is sent from. Some smaller banks cantake up to 10 business days. The car will not leave here until my banksays the check has cleared. No exceptions. That is why I like wire transfers and cash.
This is a super cool Pontiac Tempest nostalgia gasser clone using many vintage parts. The build started with a super clean, rust free, and low mileage car. The interior is all original except for the carpet. The car was taken completely apart and rebuilt on arotisserie. The frame and floor pan were heavily modified to withstand the high horsepower and torque of this engine. It was built to look like an original gasser from the gasser wars, but it is very street friendly as long as you don't go much over about 60 miles per hour. The 9" Ford rear end is sporting 4:88gears.
I did not build this car, but I did track down thenameand number of the owner / builder through a friend of his that I will give to the winner. Thefollowing is what I know about this car.
Body and paint: Over the top perfect. Not a single scratch, nick, or imperfection, and straight as an arrow. The color is white pearl. The chrome and stainless trim is perfect. Not a single pit or dent. Theweatherstripping is all new. Glass is perfect. All windows work as they should. All lights work. The wipers do not work. The motor runs, but one connection joint on the linkage is disconnected under the dash? Probably an easy fix.
Interior: All original except for the carpet. It is excellent shape. No issues that I have found. The chrome roll bar is fastened securely to the frame members. Dash is perfect. Allgauges work.Speedometer is not hooked up. Has seat belts and racing harness.
Driveline and suspension: I do not knoweverything about it, but I will say what I do know for sure. I have had the valve covers and theoil pan off, and I have more pictures to verify the following. The engine is a 350 cu in Chevy 4 bolt main. It has Manley Platinum series forged pistons. Not sure of the compression ratio, but it runs great on premium pump gas, so it is probably in the 10-1 range. The pistons have drill marks where they were balanced. The cylinder walls still have the crosshatch marks. It has a Lunati full roller solidlifter cam with roller rockers. This can be verified by looking into the cam valley through where the oiltube is screwed into the intake manifold.Lunati solidliftercams have very distinct horizontal bar pop-up roller lifters. 7 quart oil pan.Hillborn electronic fuel injection with a Carabine control unit under the dash. This set-up alone sells for around $6500.00 not counting tax andshipping. No choke setting, just hit the key and go like a new car. Ceramic coated fender well headers with caps. Theexhaust is all new Flow Master mufflers that sound great. TheMuncie 4 speed is supposedly a rock crusher with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. Ibelieve that to be true because it makes the gear noise that real rock crushers do. There is a scatter proof bell housing with the engine protection plate. The rear end is a custom Ford 9" with Strange axles. It has 4:88 gears and a Detroit locker set-up. Ladder bars, leaf springs, and coil over shocks complete the rear suspension package. The front end appears to be a Speedway set-up. It utilizes a half / rack and pinion set-up in place of a mechanical steering box. The car steers, rides, and drives great. There are Wildwood disc brakes on all 4 corners and a line lock set-up with the control button located on the shifter. A 20 gallon fuel cell with a foam liner is in the trunk along with the battery andbattery cut off switch.
Wheels are new ETs all around. Tires are new with Radir pie crust cheater slicks. This car can absolutely fry those big tires. It is very, very fast. A bitscary fast actually.
As I said above. I did notbuild this car, and I have listed what I do know about it. I do have more pictures of theunderside of the engine with the oil pan off to verify things.
I recently purchased this car with the intent of keeping it, but, believe it or not, this car is just too nice for me, and I am a little tooafraid to drive it. I do not want to be the first one to nick the paint or cause any other damage to it, and it is very difficult not to stomp on the gas pedal and go through the gears when driving it.
If you are looking for an over the top flawless high end gasser that you can drive on the street and take to the track, then this may be the car for you. If you think you can low ball me on the value / price, then this is not the car for you.
Please do not call asking for a buy it now price, offer trades, or ask what the reserve price is. There was about $60,000 put into thebuild of this car, but my reserve is well below that. DO NOT BID OVER WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO SPEND, and you will be fine.If you want to make an offer, please send it through email with your full name andcontact information. If I feel you are serious, I will call you.
Car has a clean Missouri title in my name and is titled as a 1961 Pontiac Tempest.
This car starts right upand drives out fine. It is super cool and gets a ton of attention.
I know I am forgetting something here, so call forquestions and more details.
I have a clear Missouri title that is in my name and it matches the VIN tag.
I will not give out my reserve price. Please do not ask.
NO TRADES, PLEASE DO ASK ASK.
You can make a reasonable offer if you wish, but I will not end the listing once the auction hits thereasonable reserve price.
Now for the business end. I encourage you, or someone you trust or hire, to come by and check out the vehicle in person. I will refund your deposit if the vehicle does not match the abovedescription. The vehicle does not leave here until all funds clear my bank. Bank and cashiers checks can take up to 10 business days. My bank will give me a letter stating the date when the check will clear. I will forward a copy of the letter to you. Bank transfers can take up to 2 days depending on what time of the day it is initiated on your end. Again, my bank will let me know when it clears. Cash is great if picking it up in person.
