Up for auction is this 1970 VW Bus. This was at one time a Riviera weekender tin top but has been converted to a 7 passenger Bus. The rear seat is not pictured but is included. It is just frame and springs and needs to be upholstered. This is a hop in and drive Bus. I have owned this Bus 3 times in the past 8-10 years. I have sold it to my brother twice and once to another good friend. I purchased it back from my brother earlier this year and drove it all summer. I have 4 other VW projects that I would like to focus on so this one is ready to go down the road.
Rust... There is no rust in the outriggers or main frame rails. My brother drove this bus through2 Illinois winters and this is what you get. The bottom 4-6 inches of sheet metal need to be replaced. This would include the sliding door, front doors, dog legs, inner and outer rockers and a few inner wheel well patch panels. I do have perfect rust free replacement front doors and aslider doorthat I would sell to the new owner for an additional price of $700 on top of the purchase price. I may even have some other replacement panels around storage that would aid in the restoration if you choose to do a complete restoration. The front beam is very sound as is the main cargo floor. The front floor has been patched on both drivers and passengers side. It works but is not the best job.
The interior is quite presentable. All original rubber floor mats are in place and in decent condition. There is a rip here and there in the mats but no missing pieces. The dash is perfect with no cracks. The wiring is clean and neat and has no real issues.
The engine, transmission and braking system are all in good working order. The engine is a dual port 1600 with mileage unknown. It is not a power house by any means but it pushes down the road as any bay bus does... slow and steady. I know my brother did a clutch within the past year. The brakes stop as good as drum brakes stop. My brother purchased all now brakes but never installed them. If the new owner wanted them we could work something out there as well.
