1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Description
1984 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI 1.8L 8v 5 speed in elusive and very rare Royal Red. 117,000 original miles, original paint and service history.
Original car. Original paint and no underbody rust whatsover!!! Most are black and rusty or have been repainted. This one is all original in the hard to find red - in great condition. I personally think the original sunbeaten paint looks cool. CA blue plate. No accidents. Clear title in hand. California car all it's life. NO RUST except very minor small bit on hatch lid where window gasket meets the metal. Recent work:
New ClutchNew water pumpNew alternatorThermostatNew HosesNew Valve cover gasketAll three belts replacedClutch release bearingNew injector O-ring CupsNew Intake and Exhaust gasketsNew crank sealNew PILOT SEALNew engine mountsFresh gear oilNew oil pan gasketNew BatteryNew matching headlinerNew Abarth exhaust system and tailpipe (sounds amazing)
All instrumentation works - center console dials/gauges (clock, battery, temp), instrument cluster (tach, speedo, gas, etc..). E-brake works great.
Seats are Recaro from a MK2 golf GTI. They're waayy more comfortable than the mk1 seats.
Original grill was damaged. Replaced with excellent condition OE.
Porsche phone dial wheels with spacers and hub adapters. Also have 14" snowflakes. MK1 original roof rack by Thule with keys.
Two keys, original owners manual and records and included spare parts: window visors, new OE GTI shifter boot, OE golf ball shift knob and a replacement GTI grille. Just haven't gotten around to installing them. Baby on the way. Hard to part with.
Title in hand. Call 773.494.0746 for questions. Thanks for looking. Car is being sold locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early.

On Jan-19-20 at 10:24:14 PST, seller added the following information:addt'l note: this is a non-sunroof model which is much preferred. no leaks! no busted rails, etc..
On Jan-19-20 at 15:00:48 PST, seller added the following information:I've been getting too many calls, messages and questions to hardly keep up with. I'm trying to get to them all. But please don't ask how much I want for the car. The car's value is reflected in recent sales which can be found on places such as bringatrailer.com. feel free to research the range of sales of the mk1 gti in the past six months. as everyone knows these cars are becoming increasingly harder and harder to find especially in red, no sunroof and original condition. keep in mind this is a driver, not a show quality car. thanks for all the interest!
