I’m the 3rd owner of this vary rare Dodge Travco camper. The 2nd owner was best friends with the original owners Son and was familiar with the vehicle since it was ordered new. The camper was special ordered from Teague Motors in Salem, OR and I have all the original documents including window sticker, dealer purchase order, options lists, finance documents, correspondence with the dealer and original owners layout diagrams and notes. The camper even has the original 1969 Oregon license plates with current tags.
The camper is completely original and in very good overall condition. The camper starts right up and runs and drives very well. I’ve gone through and taken care of all the basic maintenance and tune up items. Oil change, new fuel filter, air filter, plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, belts, valve cover gaskets, radiator flush and new hoses and cap. Brakes were done recently and I just flushed and replaced the fluid. Transmission has been serviced with new filter, fluid and gasket. Starter relay and ignition coil have been replaced as well. Tires are great and it also comes with a reproduction of the original factory service manual.
All camper items work as well including propane stove and oven (tank just filled). Electrical plug-in and outlet, pressure water hookup and faucet, pump faucet works but tank hose is not connected as I planned to flush out the fresh water tank. Camper has a full dinette with table that come out, folds and stores next to rear closet. Forward rear seat reverses to face either way for dinette or forward for driving. Both rear seats fold flat to make a bed and there is a built in hammock setup that folds out up top. Also an additional extension seat that attaches to the engine housing that extends the housing cover pad so that there is enough space for a child to sleep there.
Camper has lots of storage space with a closet, side cabinet, under seats, under stove, up top behind cab and in the rear. A 6-foot man can easily stand upright inside the camper without having to bend and there are screened windows up top for ventilation.
Drive train includes the extremely reliable 210 H.P. 318 Cu. V8 with 3 speed loadflite automatic transmission. 3,600 pound axle in rear in 2,500 up front. Additional factory options include anti slip differential, dual bright finish, bright finish bumpers, deluxe wheel covers, undercoating, radio, 60 amp alternator, oil pressure gauge, cigar lighter, interior lighting and glare reducing horn ring and instrument panel trim.
This is a very solid vehicle with no rust except for some very minor surface rust spots on the exterior. Drivers seat is torn and there are a couple small tears on rear upholstery. Everything works except for the fuel gauge, which needs the sending unit replaced. All lights and electrical are in good working order with a new deep cycle battery installed. It does leak some oil a this time but I’ve narrowed that down to the distributor base gasket which I have a replacement for but have not had time to replace. We have driven the camper from our home in the Portland area to the Oregon coast several times with no issues and it will keep up with anything going over the mountains.
These campers are extremely rare and nearly impossible to find in original rust free condition. It is bigger than a VW camper, much more reliable and can overtake vehicles on steep mountain passes with no problem. Travco was a highly regarded RV manufacture and converter that built to highest quality standards; just Google the name and you can read all about it. Title is clean and clear in my name, you will get no stories or undisclosed issues with me.
